CCI & Winchester Small Pistol Primers

I need input from more experienced 40 S&W pistol cartridge reloaders.
Which one is a better primer between CCI & Winchester small pistol primers when reloading 40 S & W ammo?

What is the difference between the two primers base on your experience?
 
right now i would stay away from the CCI primers. a bunch of people around here (southern Alberta) got a bad lot of CCI primers. 2 or 3 failures to inginite out of a hundred.
 
I've loaded thousands of .40S&W with Winchester primers and never had a misfire in my Glock 22. I haven't used the CCI ones, there has been some recent issues as well as two types floating around. Some CCI loaded ammo has specially marked primers with a small "A" on them which designates the good ones. Apparently some ammo didn't live up to spec for some LE rounds. I am not sure if component primers are affected by this at all? Best just avoid them until they get their issues sorted out.

For range use, you could probably live with a dud here and there, if your shooting competition you couldn't. Price is about the same for either primer. Depending on your use pick accordingly, I'd bet most reloaders are very specific with what works for them, some use CCI exclusively and haven't reported any problems. I've never heard of any recent issues with Winchester primers, they all perform as designed.
 
I use both. Same load (not max loads) no problem. CCI look nicer and seem to be slicker so they feed better in my Lee. New to reloading so out of about 5000 primers no failure to fire from either.

I have always used winchester for my reloads. I find that it is always out of stock everytime I need to buy for my next reloads. I am not quiet sure about CCI as my alternative, that's why I inquire from you long time reloaders.

I dont have enough experience in reloading to compare different primers to claim WIN primers are the best. So far, at this point of my reloading I never had any problems with it and I am more familiar with my loads using Winchester primer. I will admit I prefer using WIN primer rather than experimenting another brand, but I can not say it is the best. :D :wink:
 
I've used both Winchester and CCI primers in my 40's without running into problems with the primers.

I wouldn't get too hung up with brand loyalty as everyone does have bad days.

As Walter notes in his area a bad batch of CCI primers has surfaced and I'm sure that in other areas people are cursing Winchester, Federal, Remington or brand X.

Every company has had tales told of their bad lots.

At one time there were several lots of 205M small rifle bench rest primers that burned a ring in the bolt face opposite where the primer intersected the primer pocket, but I still would not hestitate to use Federal primers even though they use those space consuming huge boxes.
