Hello again, today a bunch of us went out to shoot the Classifier to see if we could raise our Classifications...

Jeff S. was very close to attaining Sharpshooter in the CDP Division (Custom Defensive Pistol) Jeff shaved off a full 45 seconds from his last Classification with a score of 154.36 using a Norinco Commander. :D

Steve S. was able to cut off a full 46 seconds and advance his Classification to SharpShooter with a score of 140.23 using a Norinco Commander. :D

I was able to acheive the Expert Classification in the ESP Division (Enhanced Service Pistol) with a score of 103.56 using a Glock 17. :D

I was also able to attain the Master Classification in the SSP Division (Stock Service Pistol) with a score of 96.37 using a XD40. :D

I was able to do better with the XD40 vs my Glock 17 for some reason. I had less penalties using my XD40 and my times were just a shade faster. (smooth is fast) I did find that the XD40 pointed naturally better and the stock sights are better. The Glock 17 has the better trigger reset.

With some good coaching from Steve S. I was able to resist the Double tap and actually shoot controlled aimed shoots. I was able to be a lot smoother doing this... thanks Steve.

Anyone can setup and shoot a Classifier. It is easy to setup and with the link below you can download the Classifer, rules, and score sheets.

I like that the Classifiers are a standard format. One does not need 10 people in the Division, 2 Masters, and not beat the masters by more than 5% to have your scores count. This a a lot simplier, easy to set up and you can try and try again.

I want to thank everyone who helped out. Thanks :)

Too bad the XD40 isn't allowed in SSP....it's considered single action by IDPA....:eek:

In any IDPA type match I've ever run shooters are divided into two groups.
Auto loaders and revolvers... that's it.
In my opinion it makes little difference what types of pistols are run against eachother and revolvers with few exceptions are all six shooters anyway.
Shooters skill with his/her chosen gun is what matters.

Last Sundays match there where 22 competitors only one of which shot the match with a revolver... a 2" snubbie.

The COF was not particularly "revolver friendly" and this shooter still managed to best over half the competition who for the most part carried full sized 10 shot 9mm and .40 cal auto loaders...

Run what ya brung and have a blast..... There is no prize money
:D

According to the IDPA rule book page 19..

Stock Service Pistol

A. Be semi-automatic;
B. Be double action, double action only, or safe action (when trigger is pulled, the hammer/striker is cocked and released.);
C. Be 9mm or larger caliber;
D. Have a maximum weight of 34oz., including an empty magazine. (Will be effective January 25, 2006);
E. Have a minimum production of 2000 units. (discontinued models must have a total production of 20000 units);
F. Fit the IDPA gun test box measuring 8¾” x 6” x 15/8” with an empty magazine inserted;
G. Be loaded to the division capacity of ten (10) rounds in the magazine plus one (1) in the chamber. Should division capacity not be achievable because of lower magazine capacity, load to maximum mechanical capacity of magazine plus one (1) in the chamber. Competitors must use the same magazine capacity throughout the competition. (example: if you start with a nine (9) magazine, you must use that magazine capacity throughout the match.);
H. Begin hammer down for selective DA/SA pistols.

If you have any additional information, could you please pass this along? Thanks

I would be happy to reshoot the classifier again with my Glock17. And when I do I will be sure to let you know. :D By the way I was also using the "Blackhawk CQB Serpa" Kydex holser with the fingerlock release button... I am sure I can reduce my time... I did have an overall time penalties of 12 seconds as well, so if I was to shoot it cleaner... I know I can do better.

I'll take Expert in two Divisons :)

So you only enforce the rules that you like? :rolleyes:

Yes. Exactly.

And since we don't operate under the yoke of a large foreign "governing" body it doesn't really matter. It just gets under the skin of guys like you Dragoon... And that's worth it
:p

Everyone who shoots our matches is aware and I have never had any complaints... Falls under our rule #1: No whining.

Doesn't IPSC in the US shoot standardized "classifier stages" ?
Yep, for a long time - so does IPSC international - through ICS. Classifier stages make it easy for some people to get "vanity" classes (higher than they really are) and at the same time, easy for some people to sandbag (lower than they really are) the classes. The only true measure of skill at any sport is participation in a large scale competition. No practice runs, no do-overs - just your results against the best you can find.
