I've been looking to "attend" not compete right away some Silhouette Matches.

I found listings for Port Alberni and Bull River. Since I don't plan to drive 9hours to take in a match and annoy everyone with dumb questions are there any other matches happening on the Island or between Vancouver and PG?(the direction of family etc)

Also what is the difference between Hi Pwr and Full bore?

Which sub forum are the silhouette shooters posting in?

This seemed like the best place after searching all the other forums

Thanks,

Willy

Thanks,

Thank you for all the links, I did find a shoot I hadn't found before. PG is an OK location for me to check out.

I had read most of those sites. I'm just looking for some layman's terms. I go over to the island half a dozen times a year but usually to Comox or Victoria to see family. Port Alberni looks like the closest place to see a match, I'm just wondering if there are some club shoots somewhere a little more convenient for me.

I shot rimfire silhouette as a teen but I am very interested in centerfire...I have a 7-08 ;-)

I was itching to try hi pwr at longer distances which is why I wasn't super interested in Mission. I was a member there for a few years and I want to shoot past 300yds HOWEVER after practicing off-hand the last few weeks I'm re-thinking my silhouette ambitions. I've been shooting rats offhand in the chicken run(trying to practice good silhouette technique). I'll probably try to catch a hi-power match this year but I am definitely going to try to compete in a rimfire comp. I appreciate the response Rick, thanks.

Rick talked me into shooting this year at the Cranbrook club. Mostly just to fatten the pot at the informal comps and to see me gnash my teeth at my frequent misses. I don't know if there is a shooting sport which is as humbling, aggravating, and plain fun as this. I've had fun building a rifle (which helped my shooting not at all) and shooting at home and at the range. It's a little emasculating to shoot with a pretty young girl who triples my score but maybe it builds character. Cranbrook's club is hosting a big match this weekend and I'm assured I will have a good time regardless of my performance. I've been practicing missing targets all week so I'm ready.

It's funny how the girls naturally shoot perfect silhouette form. Way back we used to shoot pretty much every Sunday, half a dozen to a dozen people would show up coffee and chili over the fire and rimfire silhouettes... Even balloons on a string at 100yds. The women always just naturally did well, they would push out their hip a little and settle their elbow down on it and hit what they were aiming at.

Cranbrook is just a bit of a drive from Vancouver but maybe someday....

only 8 hours.... no stops..... drill catheter hole, and fill the coffee, bring the picnic cooler...

Astronaut diapers? I've had two elk draws in Creston...with my small bladder, excessive need for A&W, and the change to Mountain time it takes 9hrs....then 1 more hour to Cranbrook. However, if we carpooled????????

The day will come when I decide to take the time to post pictures but it ain't here yet. It's an old Model 70 (1938) with a home-made stock (even some checkering on the grip). This past weekend, I had a streak going of seven rams then I hit one. Performances like this are all too common when I'm on the line.

I thought I'd practice offhand with my air rifle at a"longer "range... I taped balloons to the top wire of my back fence.... 7shots for 3balloons.... Yikes don't know if I'm ready for rimfire chickens!
