Central BC newbie

Nearly 50, (less than 5 months to go). Been playing with firearms since I could keep both ends off the ground at the same time.

Lived in BC all my life, but have relatives to the east and south that I'm not ashamed to say I have visited or I'm related to. They just aren't as fortunate as me to live in the best place on earth.

Worked in the forest industry since high school, before and after post-secondary education, so I know how to spell tree and feller-buncher as well as skidder and excavator. Been doing compliance & enforcement work for the Ministry of Forests and Range (provincial) for about 14 years.

I think I'm open minded, but I have an opinion, usually I can rationalize it. If I can't and you can rationalize yours, I might change mine. If you aren't able to tell me why you are taking a stand on a subject, I don't want to hear about it in the first place.

I'm not into assault type weapons and other toys of that genre. I like single shot falling blocks and bolt actions. I'm a meat hunter, but I won't turn down a shot at a trophy either.

I have a nine year old son that is displaying interest in hunting and I am trying to promote that interest.

If your son is interested in getting his CORE drop me a private message (PM) and I may be able to help find you an instructor in your area.

If you are in (or near Quesnel) and are intersted, we (Quesnel Rod and Gun Club) hold a few rifle shoots (both high power and .22) every year and I could put you on the list to notify when they are being held. We also do a fair bit of trap and are breaking into sporting clays, so if you ever gave any thought to that, there is opportunity for you to try it. In fact, what ever your interest(s), you'll find people here that share it/them and that are willing to share their knowledge if requested (and even if not requested :p). It's a great site for information, buying and selling, and to keep informed of events that are of interest to you.

We seem to share a few things in common, general location, interest in single shots and we appear to have the same employer. If you are close enough to Quesnel you should try and attend our high power rifle shoots during the summer - quite a few of us shoot Sharps, Rolling Blocks and Highwalls.
