so, I am working on a GSG 1911. I've done all the hard parts, except the trigger job.

Now, I am planning on having the slide, beavertail safety and mainspring housing coated.

How do they not kill all the writing? IE the serial number specifically. I know its not needed as the frame is the registered part, but...

And any other things I need to know before I dive in

Haven't decided on colours yet. Maybe just black, or maybe something really wild. not sure.

Gun shoots great, really well, just looks don't match the performance. the frame is fine, just the slide is dinged up a fair amount.

Arma Coated GSG... Took over 1000 rounds of CCI stingers before it started working with bulk ammo.... The coating is starting to wear off already :( on some parts due to the cheap pot metal used in production.

I have about 5000 rounds thru it since this picture.... I can still see my #'s no problem

I can read the serial numbers fine (upper gun in pic) but I had the air turned down a fair bit and didn't blast it any more than necessary . Pretty sure you could cut a gsg slide in half with 120 psi and aluminum oxide

I had a couple of Stainless Colts Cerakoted Black at BC Cerakote, Colt doesn't stamp the "Rampant Colt" or in 2011 the "100 Years Of Service" on the O1980RG Model that comes from the factory in Black Cerakote due to it filling in the Roll Marks

I am very pleased how they turned out, the 100 Year stampings were light and varied depth to begin with, can still see them well enough for my taste, the Serial Number and Model ect look great

yea those Colt roll marks would be fine, the are deep. I guess it doesn't matter on the slide anyways, its the frame that matters.

any ideas on colour?

and, does anyone know the Cerakote or other coating number/name that very closely matches the frame on the GSG? its not black, but a very dark grey.

Who's good to send it to? Someone that will make sure its prepped well, has done a few of these specifically so they know all the ins and outs etc?

The only two I have used are Arma-Coat in Alberta , always very happy with the results and Cerakote BC , they are in Hope, BC ,so right in your area, if you took the Frame and Slide in you could get them to match your Frame colour, as close as possible.

Either of them should be able to tell you about any specific concerns/procedures/limitations in prepping and finishing the GSG Slide Material

Often think I will try new colours some time, but always seem to just go with the basic Black

Gotta tell you jr....it's chip proof...although I am sending a p-226 frame off for something durable...prob flat earth...
