Is it normal for cerakote to scratch off. some is coming off my action. It was just done. its not in a spot were its a big deal but just wondering

Cerakote is one of the toughest spray-on coatings known to human kind, if not the toughest. Once properly applied it should not scratch off unless with sharp tools. Your gun was either not prepared right before spraying or the mix was out of specs or oven curing was screwed or a combination of all three.

I wonder if the person who did the work used the air dry Cerakote, or the bake-on stuff.
I found a Youtube video of someone who did a pistol with the air dry version, the inside of the action as well as the outside was finished. He dissasembled it after using the pistol for a while and showed the wear on the inside of the slide etc. and there wasnt much. He claimed that after trying Duracoat and the air dry Cerakote, he found the CeraKote much more durable.

If the metal was prepped properly and the Cerakote mixed correctly you'd have a hard time beating it off of the part with a hammer. I've accidently gotten overspray inside of actions before and it's a b*tch to get off even with abrasives.

Yea. I've done a lot of work with Duracoat, which is applied pretty much the same as ceracoat. I've made my mistakes too so I've learned the hard way about a lot of issues like this.

It sounds to me a lot like poor surface prep before painting. Either didn't rough the surface enough or didn't properly clean it before application.

If it is just in one spot it is 99% that otherwise if the paint wasn't mixed properly with the hardener it wouldn't just be limited to that spot.
