Certain reticles restricted to law enforcement and military?

I was told the other day by a dealer here in BC that certain reticles on optics can only be sold to law enforcement and military. More specifically, this was in regards to the Trijicon ACOG with a red chevron reticle.

Does anyone know why this is?

And are their any other optics/reticles this applies to?

It all seems rather silly to me, as the same optics can be purchased, only with different reticles.

Regards.

I wonder if the dealer was referring to end user certificates issued by the US State Dept ?

ORRRRRR,

Was this at Wholesale Sports ? Cause that would explain a lot.... :D

That.

Some companies are able to import optics with the conditions that they sell to LEO or Mil. users (a US rule).

Some companies will tell you that to make you feel special about getting it, like the Leupold CQT or some ACOG's, or EOTech's that have "Military or Law Enforcement Only" stickered to the side.

In any case, there are no Canadian laws about optics or reticals that you can have on your rifle.

I think even IR lasers are okay, although not a good idea unless you have a set of NVG so you can see where the laser is going (moral issue since IR can damage your eye)

Ok, that makes better sense... it probably is the LEO/Military rule from the US for exporting.

And it wasn't wholesale sports... I won't buy anything from them, except maybe ammo in a pinch.

I did specifically ask if the business could import one for me, so that might be why... I'm gonna look into other businesses around the country then, seeing as it isn't illegal to have such a reticle.

It is US ONLY export restriction, no such restrictions in Canada it is just impossible to import them from US
