In order not to hijack another thread :D

I recently read and article that features some of the weapons used recently by the CF in Afganistan

There was a short critique on the 16" barreled uppers that were issued (good reviews) to replace the standard 21" uppers.

But I cant tell from the poor pictures if thats a short carbine gas system or a mid lenght gas system.

Anyone ??

yes somewhat confusing

but between the new variable lenght butstock and a 16" Barrel thats a few inches saved making a handy little rifle.

I was just hoping for a milspec mid lenght gas system to hit the market sometime down the road

Bah marketing tripe

Midlength in the industry refers to a gas system

Diemaco/Colt Canada barrels from from 10", 10.5", 11.5" 14.5", 16" to 20" -- As well down in the USA there is a 18" barrel on the Mk12 so 16 is not a midlength barrel in any sort.

Diemaco - uses a 16" barrel with a carbine gas system.
