Material Focus

Everything I'll be teaching you is based on the CQB matches fired by the ORA at Langemark Range, CFB Borden.

Here's the bulk of the material from my www.tacticalteacher.ca website:

CQB Clinic Description (both restricted and non-restricted focus)

CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :

* Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
* Advance and fire shooting
* rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Canada)
* gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
* What works in close and what belongs in the video games
* What works for you and what does not work for you
* Why you do up all your pouches and zippers especially before using the PortaPotty

CQB Gear to Bring:

Depending upon the focus of the type of CQB clinic

* Reliable , dependable, and tested RESTRICTED rifle & pistol

* Reliable, dependable NON-RESTRICTED rifle semi-auto loader: M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield, M14, M1A, etc
* Current club issued long term ATT or Short term ATT for guests, arranged by club host (chalkriver, my pointman)

* Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x or 3x or 4x magnification scope)
* Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
* Bring 100 rounds of pistol ammo
* Ensure you have reliable iron sights (USGI for you M14 lovers, I hope) or reliable/tested/proven optics
* Your vest or webbing must hold the 5 x 5/20 or the 5 x 5/30 magazines you will need, depends on your platform.
* Your vest should have pouches for 2 pistol magazines (restricted CQB clinic)
* Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
* Single Point sling (Vickers, BFGear, Magpul MS3 MS4)
* Bring extra ammo whenever in doubt (better yet double my suggested round count)
* a bottle of lube (CLP, oil, grease, KY Jelly)
* 2 or 3 pens/pencils
* small rag
* ear protection (electronic means are recommended)
* Ballistic glasses are mandatory
* an open mind
* a sense of humor

Caliber Restrictions

Understand that Petawawa Range Control has their rules and we must abide by them. Here are the ONLY calibers allowed to be shot at THEIR ranges:

22, 38 ,9mm ,40cal ,303 ,308 ,5.56 ,338 Lapua are the ONLY calibres allowed on those ranges.

It's THEIR Range setup, we must respect their wishes. End of story! :cool:

Cool. I can (try to) correct all the mistakes I make at the June clinic.

Registered.

Hard to sort out all the mistakes at the first go around. I'm still making mistakes even after all these years. I got DQ'ed at Match 3 during CQBM2 for 2015, back on 23 May. I'm that kind of learner. There is a reason I know more than all of you out there; it's because I've screwed up every single time. :)

I'm the kind of learner who needs hands on. I'm not the visual and auditory learner that many of you smart people are, out there! :wave: I need to be manipulating and doing stuff. Often I have to make early mistakes to cement concepts in to my head. :cool:

It's the mean teachers out there (less tolerant of slow learners like me) that give us teachers a bad name. :eek:

Our only option is how we react to those nasty teachers....... bitter or better? I'll choose better and then the kindness! :cool: Since in the end, only kindness matters. Maybe that's why we have such a successful history up in Petawawa GC, we have a great community! :wave:

Cheers and keep on helping them nooobies out there!

June clinic was awesome...still digesting a lot of info 3 days later...trying to work out the logistics for September now to make it back up to Pet and I will have at least one actual CQB match under my belt by then too...although I may have to bring the SKS again if my Noveske isnt ready in time :)...hope to see everyone again in Sept or up at Borden in August.

So here we are a third of the way into July. We have 14 folks registered already and half way to filling this clinic. No sweat, we will get there! ;)

Cheers and keep on helping them nooobies out there ! :wave:

Looking to acquire quality webbing/vest, drop leg holster and mag pouches, what brands do you recommend? For mag pouches, Velcro or elastic retention? Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks.

talking about thigh holsters, I've been reading a variety of opinions about the benefits or not of using them. Example (old 2007 article here). At the June clinic I used a holster on the right side of my vest and I liked it there. Thinking about other shooting sports where the holster has to be oriented specific ways so that you have less risk of sweeping yourself with the barrel, I spoke to Barney about it and he said this was ok.

So now I am wondering whether it would be ok to have a vest holster where the barrel is pointing to the side, not down?

googled image found on internet (this guy must have trained with Barney, he's got his pen front and center lol)
