CFC does NOT need to talk to spouse?

No, I think you're right

So, what would have made you happy? A police car coming to your house, couple guys come out, sit down and have coffees with your wife for an hour, then you get to show them where you propose to store the firearms?
You called in, and had your References and your wife call in, WHY???? Send the app, IF they call, answer all questions truthfully. Ask references to answer any questions truthfully, IF they are called. Same for the wife. It's as though you WANT there to be more hassle. It's already more paper work and hassle than it should be, I say that, and my only hassle is a 2 minute call when I'm doing a transfer. The CFC would be bragging about how much $$$ the registry cost if it were done your way.
Guns were bought and sold with no licenses, no registry for decades. Were we in more danger then, or now? Was gun crime more, or less prevalent before the registry? The mere fact that you are applying for a license, should be enough to let them know you are a stand up guy, who deserves to be granted the privilege of buying guns (check the charter, guns or even property in general, is NOT your "right").
In fact, what changed me from being pretty gun-neutral to pro-gun was the realization that the government has more control over, and we have less access to, guns than ever before, yet gun crime and general lawlessness seems to be worse than ever. I came to really get what is meant by "guns don't kill people" (side note: I'm not sure most CGNers, or gun enthusiasts in general, understand that the "guns don't kill people" argument doesn't have the same connotations for most anti-gun people as it does for pro-gun people ... but maybe that is another conversation.)

So, no it's not that I want the CFC to check with my wife. It's that I expect them to, but for all the talk about safety and background checks and whatnot, they don't actually follow through in a manner that is most logical and consistent with their ideology. My post was driven not by a desire to be hassled by the cops, but at frustration at the arbitrary and nonsensical process. I now know firsthand, and really understand what others have said on this and other threads, that I shouldn't expect anything other than nonsense from the CFP.

But FYI, I called in to do my interview and had my references call in because it's what is advised elsewhere on CGN as being the best/fastest way of getting your licence. I don't want to wait any longer than I have to. :)

None of my references were ever called my wife has never been called... The whole system is a bad joke.. The idea that any of this will prevent crime... They have never provided stats that show it,... (becuase they can't)
gee and I just checked mine expires this year better talk nice to the wife and get a renewal going... I've got 6 months...

Actually a visit to see how you plan on storing your guns makes more sense than calling the referances that you provided!! I know, don't give them any ideas!!

I live in Bantario and they didn't call anyone for my PAL/RPAL a few years ago.
In the last month I've bought 3 new guns including a restricted and applied for my ATT.
Nobody has called.

I was at the gun shop last year and a fellow came in to look around, a bit of an odd duck by the questions asked but seemed harmless. Then he said that he was thinking about getting a PAL/RPAL (yes he knew the terms) and wondered if the fact he was bipolar would affect his application. We suggested he talk with his doctor and answer the application truthfully.

I have extensive experience dealing with 3 different bipolar people and a few missed pills can make the difference between sorta normal and wacky. Hopefully if they ever apply for a PAL/RPAL their references will do the right thing and raise it with the CFC (if they are called).

I have been used by family members as a reference for loans (thye didn't ask me first) and such and I honestly told the companies I wouldn't lend them money. I would do the same for a PAL application if I thought there was an issue.

For my RPAL they called for my wife 3 times in a row, middle of the week, during business hours. Each time it was the same guy and I told him she works until 5pm (I was on vacation). On the 3rd call he said "I can't keep calling back. Can you answer the questions". I said sure and I did .

Oh, burocrats, they truly are the laziest form of government.

No call for the MRS.

I did my RPAL interview over the phone this week, and they called both of my references.

They haven't called my girl though, she signed off, so its not an issue, but I too anticipated that they would have made that call for sure.

Oh well, day 28 is this Monday, so I will start watching the mail box.

pretty sure they dont ask you about relationships that fell short of engagement. But on the phone they ask if u've had a significant relationship that ended recently. Perhaps moving in together would count. I'd hardly say a one nighter is a relationship.

I believe you and I think along the same lines. I don't mind that they call me or my references, it only takes about 5 minutes. Plus I hope that it can prevent a loonie from getting a weapon who intends to use it to harm others. I would expect them to call your wife as well just because if someone was to be harmed in any situation, a spouse would be a likely victim, and they may know it.
