I finally got around to trying CFE-BLK in my 17 hornet. At 12.4gr behind the 20gr v-max, velocity was 3650fps, and a 1/2moa five shot group. 12.6gr produced 3700fps and 3/4moa. I could also feel a slight resistance on bolt lift after firing the 12.6gr loads. I will do further testing at 12.4gr, but I am wondering about the Hodgdons data, as my rifles would not be safe with the maximum load of either Lil Gun or CFE-BLK.

Thanks for the report. I've got some CFE-BLK that I've wanted to try. This is a Cooper rifle correct? What brass is this? If it's Hornady, is the 50 or 57 grain cases?

Cooper rifle, Hornady cases, never measured the capacity. Seated to .010" off of the lands. But if there are larger capacity cases, that might explain the Hodgsons data, I haven't found a rifle yet that would be safe with their maximum loads.

I did some loading with my HH last summer and was getting random high velocities and pierced primers. Powder (1680) was weighed so I looked at the cases. Sure enough I had 25 cases mixed in with another 100 that were ~57gr compared to the ~50gr of the rest. This was all brass from once fired Hornady factory ammo. I segregated the cases and my issue went away.

All of my cases were purchased as new cases.

So I just ordered a cz varmint 17 hornet. I used to
Reload a bit. Have to buy everything again to reload. Is it safe for me to just reload some rounds at 12.4 grains if that is working wel for you? That is if you are loading for the same rifle as I have. I don’t have a chronographer

I have a nice load of 9.8 grs of Lil Gun with 20 grs bullets giving me .75 inches in my 527, a pound will last a long time. I went up to 10 grs with no problems except for group opening up. May have to try some of this CFE-BLK just for the fun of it. All my cases are Hornady factory stuff I fired.
