I sent in my PAL aplication 3 weeks agon and Canada Post Delivered it on the 21st. I called in to the office today and they could not even confirm that it had been recieved yet.

The lady I was talking to said they were just getting to the applications that were recieved on the 14 of November because the had recieved a larger then normal amount of aplications.

Is this normal, will this cause an extra long delay in recieving my Pal?

thanks

Thanks. It does not show up on line yet. The lady i talked to said it is still stuck in the mail room and they probably wont recive it for another week

I have a friend who sent hers in in July and it hasn't been approved yet.... they did all the reference checks in August.. anyone know what may be going on?

she needs to call and ask.. the guideline they themsleves give is 45 days.... my experience was positive... but if you dont get it in 45 you should call and ask

Guessing morale must be low at the Miramichi office, so productivity is down.
The smarter employees are prolly the first to jump ship, which further reduces productivity. Be nice to be a fly on the wall in that office.

My experience was positive, and upgraded to RPAL within 45 days...my friend getting his PAL for the first time is stuck at 100+ days, CFC said local CFO had his application now and would make final decision in few weeks.

YMMV.

It's normal and apparently they are date stamped when they arrive so your not really missing out if it sits in the mail room.

I predict that the elimination of the long gun registry will motivate a great number of currently-unlicensed people to become licensed.

It's going to be good news for the RFC.

Everyone would avoid all sorts of headaches if they sent their application through registered mail.

You get a nice little signature and date that it was received. That way, they can't jerk you around.

Thats what I did, and my license got to my door within 5 weeks, including the mandatory 28 days waiting period.

BINGO, we have a winner.

This is how you need to handle any correspondence with the CFC/RCMP. Things tend to not be messed with or lost when they know its being tracked and has been signed for.

They're government workers with stable jobs, holidays off, decent pay, pensions, etc. Morale isn't any higher or lower than it will ever get and nobody jumps ship. I've never been, but I doubt Miramichi is such a hotbed of economic growth that government clerical workers could leave public service and get six figure salaries. I doubt they give a rat's behind that your application was signed for. The point of getting expresspost is that YOU know when the clock started ticking three weeks before they notify you the clock started ticking.

They're falling behind because of hunting season, long gun registry interest, flu season and christmas shopping. And because they're on the phone with the people who call every day even though they just mailed their application in yesterday.

The moral of this thread isn't to harass the clerks to process your papers more quickly, its to cut out needless waiting by identifying the pointless bottlenecks: waiting for results to get back from CFO and waiting for them to call you and the references for the interview.

I'm just glad we have new shooters, hunters, and gun owners waiting in line. I know it sucks to have to wait, but it's a good sign for gun ownership in Canada. The more the merrier!

^^ Agreed! I have several co-workers now interested in obtaining their firearms licenses for sport shooting.

If the CFC is falling behind then it's a very recent development. I'll post my timeline once the paper license arrives in the mail but I was <30 days approved for RPAL.

Are we talking about the Ontario CFO? In which case, I whole-heartedly agree- 3+ months for a freaken LTATT. I'm thinking of going to the range come next Friday, so I might just call for an STATT.

CFC was good to me received Oct 25 by Nov 23 references done and sent to local CFO. A quick call on my part and I volunteered by gun club membership info it was approved the next day.

You need;

Registered mail,

Patience's

A few phone calls.

Be genuinely nice.

Oh yeah it doesn't hurt that I'm not in Ontario :)

Anything I send to the government is sent registered mail.....accountability is the reason. Hard to deny they got it when it was signed for.

All correspondence with ANY government institution should be handled this way...

...None of that "Oh we never received it." BS
