I have written a review right after the match but I have deleted it - becasue there are some jargons there I figured I should just leave them out.
The June match at Connaught was very well attended - I have never ever seen so many civilian competitions. There were over 30 people showing up. Many people were from Quebec. It was almost like a PQ rifle association transplanted to Ontario. Multi-cam seemed to be the fashion......Marpat and woodland are out. So all the trend followers take note!
And rarely - there was no wind at Connaught!
The new 1 to 4 matches create some issues for civies - now everyone was carrying up to 10 mags around. You have to have a functional set of load bearing carrier. Many civilians shot with their backpacks on, because the way the relays worked. No one tried to be PC and put their magazines into the pockets anymore.
The new 1 to 4 match is less physical intensive than the old match. The super rundown is gone, and there are more time to settle down after the run. However, some of the stages are super long. Doing the butt work made baby jesus cry. There are lots of repetitions - those 20 rounds stages were really testing endurance sometimes.
Since this whole thing is based on advanced application, there aren't any 4ft frames for sighters. If the rounds are off ( bad zeroing or wind), you might be pumping rounds into air for the entire match.
Some of the timings for Match 2 were kinda slow - too much time to shoot at close range at 15 yards . I literally had time to put my reticle on the target for a second, adjusted and fired, watched where I hit, and fired again. IMHO, this is not good-training scar. At 15 yards, it only needs 2 seconds the most to fire 2 shots. Also, ORA did not have barricades, so that created some slack in timing where stages were supposed to be shot on alternate sides of barricades. Instead, we just shot it kneeling or standing. So the ORA vesion of the Match 2 is slightly watered down due to the lack of barricades (and people complaining going down on their knees 10 times)
Overall, the new 1-4 match is less physical intensive, but it is harder because it runs faster. The pace is faster and it is less dragging from the perspective of keeping interest. Your OODA loops needs to go 3X speed. You have to organize the kits, move, do time appreciation, read the environment and shoot. In the old matches, there was enough time to do one thing at a time. Now, you have to manage everything at the same time. There were times I said to myself - have you even looked at the wind? Thank god there had been no wind that day!
Becasue of the faster pace, the butt and the firing points really have to work together. The butt officer (or ButtMaster TM) really has to keep his gig tight. Hungry and TimK were doing a good job - and first time ever I heard TimK yelling at Hungry.

I cannot wait til we see some wind gushing at Connaught in this new match. we are going to hear lots of cursing and f-words -
Just my short review.
