Yes I know there are a bunch of these threads but I searched for a thread releated to Calgary and couldn't find one. I have some questions of my own anyways. I want to take the normal non-restricted PAL course (I have no interest in handguns) in Calgary. I have googled and there seems to be a few but they differ substantially in price. Can someone recommend a good place? Preferabbly cheap as I'm a poor student haha. How is the course offered by the Calgary Rifle and Pistol Club?

The Shooting Edge offers a PAL only and a combination PAL/RPAL i know the combo course is $250. I took it in November and it was very well done.

Aheia

Call the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors' Association.

They have more spots available than TSE. While TSE puts on a good course, they are usually saturated (one guy I work with has his course in June '09)

Restricted doesn't mean just handguns, but rifles as well. The restricted course is about 5 minutes longer than the NR course, there's really no reason not to take it. Your just going to be kicking yourself in the balls when you realize one of your favorite rifles is restricted and you gotta do the course again.

If I were you, at the very least, just leave your options open.

I took my course at the shooting edge on blackfoot trail here in calgary, I had to wait about 4 months. They hold the course every sunday.

AHEIA is the place to start. They control the instructors in the province and can direct you to someone who might be available to teach/challenge soon. Unfortunately for some reason it seems that most courses in the province are filled up months in advance. So cost may become secondary to speed.
