CG63 - anybody got one, opinions please

I've been considering getting one of the CG63's from Tradex. Any comments from those who own them.

Looking for something to play with. Not serious about competition but I like to hit what I'm aiming at. I'm also a milsurp kind of guy so this has some appeal in this regard.

I currently have an Enfiled P14 TR in 308 win but I really like the 6.5x55 cartridge, and having a repeater adds what I might use it for.

Very popular in the service rifle circuit back in the 70's. Also usually quite accurate. Low recoil, easy to load for. An excellent rifle for the money, for that type of shooting. A big plus if it comes with the target sights. - dan

I've been shooting one for about 3 months now. Very pleasant to shoot. Try to get several inserts for the front sight with it ...otherwise it will not be as good at all distances.

These aren't intended for use with a scope. If the original diopter sights suit you, you are away to the races.

All righty then, away to the races I am. I know what you mean about the inserts. I am going to make sure I grab one that takes the anshutz inserts, which I already have. Thanks folks

As an aside, they can be modified for scope use. I've done a couple over the years for friends who's eyes needed the glass. - dan

The same procedure as altering any military action to use a scope.
On one of these, remove the rear target sight, drill and tap, alter the bolt handle. If its a range rifle only, might not be necessary to fit a safety that will clear the scope.

Years ago I aquired a CG63 in 308. It has a very nice set of "Redfield International Match" sights.

I must admit that the first time out was a very humbling experience. A rifle that could shoot way better than I could......

Happy to enable you. I've been looking at them for a long time too. Finally decided to do something about it too. You dealing with Tradex? That is where I am getting mine, through Epps (traded in some under used toys). Hopefully we will enjoy them as much as the other contributors to this thread.
