CG63 in 7.62x51

Needed some real creativity to mount that AJ Parker sight (made for a No. 4 Lee Enfield) onto a small ring mauser! Not sure from pictures what modifications done to that sight, but with the attaching screws included, as shown, that rear sight seems to go $250 to $350 by itself. Marks on receiver seem to show Crown over 68, with the additional rune, so appears to be a made up by Carl Gustaf in 1968, and proofed then. But would have been 6.5x55, I believe? Not so sure about the bolt - that has been "sported" - neither the straight CG bolt, nor the curved down Husqvarna bolt. As originally made, would have had Pramm, CG, Soderin, or a couple other versions of rear aperture sights - unusual off set screw mount pattern - 3.0mm or 3.5mm , I think, and, I discovered, that almost each maker had their own pattern for the mounting holes - often not interchangeable.
the piece that the PH sight is mounted to is a proper PH No5 sight adapter for Mausers. this sight and adapter is probably a $350-$400 value.

Tough sell though. To say that the market is limited would probably be an understatement. I've a Post WW1 commerical sportered K98 with a Lyman 57 on it ( IIRC), web search says the sight is worth more than the carbine. But I'm not holding my breath on the sale of it, most guys want glass.

Interesting that the Swedish Carl Gustaf armoury would have bought from Parker Hale, but they did buy the sight, why not the adapter?? Maybe part of the deal to get the CG-63E approved by British NRA?? All a long time ago!!! I have not seen that sight adapter before, except in the pictures of the rifles in the Crown Jewels book - was it offered for sale to anyone? Just for the 1896 style mausers, or for the 1898's also?

Vintage target rifle, although in very nice shape. Hate to break the news but only worth about $400.

Vintage does not mean that a new one is better. A hunting rifle made by Brno in "50" in exellent condition is commanding a premium over a new CZ in the same caliber. Manufacturers love to cut costs. In rimfire world ,the old version on CZ 452 was superior to new CZ 455. CZ455 is simplified version of 452. Anyway the Averige Joe will not notice the difference.

At $400 that is a steal. At $600 you might wait a while to find the right buyer, especially in the current environment.
I too have a CG-63 in 7.62, but I believe my sight is a Sodern. Purchased a few years ago (8-10?) for around $500 if memory serves...
Great rifle and excellent value.
If you enjoy slinging up, working on your principals, and shooting irons - even if you are plinking - they are a bargain buy imho.

It is a CG63E and was equipped from conversion to CG63 with the mounting base for the Parker-Hale type receiver sight.

I guess for a lot of people gunswhows is considered a kind of fleamarket and is supposed to offer products "cheaper than dirt"

Not really, there is a very small market for true "target rifles". I did buy a couple a few years ago at a very reasonable price at one of the gun shows in Kingsville. When I talked to the seller he told me that he had brought these rifles to the same show several times a year for several years. One he wasn't even sure what it was, but I knew as soon as I saw it. Turns out that I bought a very lightly used Musgrave.

The older target rifles that were made from military actions and even some of the purpose built target actions from the 60's-70's era just are not seen much anymore in competition. 30 years ago it was common to see guys shooting #4's, P-14 and 1917 actions with .308 barrels screwed on. In the passed 20 years I have seen one #4 being shot by a shooter that had been out of the game for 25 years.

I guess that very low priced CG63 in Canada is related with the fact that Tradeex "flooded" and "saturated" the small Canadian market with them. Here is the range of prices from US for CG63 and is around 1000$US

I took mine to a couple of gunshows with a $750 price tag on it. No interest from buyers......

In Canada, we don't have the competitive shooter numbers that they have in the US.

Competitive shooters, that wanted one of the rifles bought them, but soon found that even though they were extremely well made, many were also well used and didn't shoot any better than the rifles they already had and were used to.

I've owned a couple of those lovely rifles and really liked them. I sold them off though. My other rifles were just as good and had a lot more options available.

Also, my eyes no longer do the ''adjustable diopter'' sights as well as they used to.

Nice rifle. You just never know at gun shows. I have tables at a few shows on the Prairies, mostly in SK. There are some very informed people combing these shows. I have had some real oddball stuff on my tables and it always attracts someone who knows good info. Swedes are kind of special to me, as I have a few of Buffdog's rifles.

I would pay $600 for a rifle like the one shown, if only to have the chance to try it and show it to other gunners that I hang out with. I am an "Average Joe", I guess. Or maybe "Overage Joe" would fit me better!! :p
