I could use some feedback from folks like Diopter or Claven. Looking at Tradex's CG 63 and Shultz and Larsen M/96 target rifles in 6.5X55. Which one should I buy? Wanting to do some 100-200yd target shooting with a diopter target rifle. Might even give it a go for deer hunting. What is the best diopter sight - it lists Elit, then the newer later Elite 101, Soderin, Pramm, Busk, etc. My 49 year old eyes are starting to go. Will probably have to wear glasses when I'm shooting it. What are people's experiences shooting either of these two rifles? Comments would be appreciated, esp. on best diopter to choose.
Thanks,
dave

No idea which is better, but I have a Shchultz and Larsen from them. I haven't shot it enough to get used to it yet, but am looking forward to it, and am also thinking about the Carl Gustav M63. I wonder if there is any chance of getting a Norwegian Kongsberg M67 too?

I have been pondering the exact same thing. I believe the CG 63 has a Schultz and Larsen barrel. Too bad we can't shoulder both and see how they feel. IMO, I don't think either choice is a bad one as they're both winners.

your best bet is the Danish Shultz& Larson M69 . they are built on K98 actions not the smaller 96 action.
when you realize you can't see the sights. it will make it that much easier to get a one piece mount for your new scope.

I have an m96 FSR prize rifle that I receive from Buffdog with solderin sights. I find the sights are very easy to see and I seem to easily do 1.5-2" 4 shot groups @ 200 yards. I just got the rifle about a month ago but already I think swede target rifles are amazing.

I think either rifle will work well. But that being said I'd stick with elite or soderin rear sights as I believe you can still buy parts for them if you need.

I'm sure Buffdog will chime in here, when it comes to shooting swede target rifles he's the guy to talk to.

Tradeex sell the Schultz & Larsen M69 Target Rifle.

I will buy this first. It have a mauser 98 action. Not that i dont like the 96 action but if i get the choice.

All diopter sight do a nicr job , i especially like the elit.

Biggest problem is finding proper size front ring apertures for size of target at distance you wish to shoot at.
Of course you can pick a target that will give the proper relationship with the front aperture.

Good Swedish diopter primer:

You won't need glasses while shooting with diopter sights. But you won't be able to use them in low lightning conditions.
Just for that single reason diopters are not good for hunting.

I emailed Tradex and asked about the diopter sights on their target rifles. You do not get the full compliment of parts with the guns. eg. Elite 101 diopter was issued with 3 different screw-in eye pieces, and 6 different front sight posts. The Tradex guns come with only one eye piece and one front insert. You'd prob. have to buy the balance of the diopter parts on EBay, at prob. the same cost as the gun!

After agonizing over these two fine old target rifles (spent 3 hours on Tradex site), I opted for this (M69?):

Jacques hasn't got back to me yet, so I hope it's still available. I have purchased 4 non-refurbished SKS's (two of which are likely unfired/unissued) from Jacques, and I trust him, though I know that Tradex is also reputable and trusted.
I really didn't want another calibre in my collection, or another vintage rifle for that matter, but these are just irresistable. You just can't buy anything modern that comes remotely close to the quality of these fine rifles for the same price.
I will likely pick up a cg63 in the future.

I couldn't resist either. I picked up a really nice Carl Gustafs M96 in great condition a while back and will be getting a very nice sportered CG63 target rifle with scope bases tonight in the mail! I can't wait to get out and try them both out!!!

A friend has a k98 actioned rifle with S&L heavy barrel chambered in 7.62 NATO. The stock is cut down military and sadly the action and bolt are matching S147 1936, A REAL EARLY J.P SAUER!! There are no markers marks outside of Shulz and Larsen on the barrel. Anyone seen anything like this? Don't mean to hijack the thread but it is about S&L barrelled rifles.

No worries Mike. This thread is all about the Scandinavian Target rifles. Your friend's sounds really interesting.
It's sad to see original K98's reworked, but in this case, the rifles were "recycled" into useful Target tools many years ago, and still carry an interesting history. Who knows what would have happened to the abandoned Mausers if the actions weren't reused.
I am kind of excited to have a K98 receiver target rifle with waffenamts still intact.

Mine is in the mail, and I will receive it on Friday. Rest assured she's going to the range on Sunday for a full test.

I am sure you will like it, it is a very accurate rifle just like the other complete CG-63 that is in the Target rifles EE at the moment.

The CG-63's are just as accurate as the Schultz & Larsen M98 target rifles, I have had and shot both and found that my CG-63 was slightly better than my S&L M98 at all ranges. This may be because the modified M96 CG-63's usually have a slightly shorter lock time than a standard M98 as well as better adjustable target triggers, and more refined target diopter sights and are easier to find in excellent condition. Most of the Danish M98 Schultz & Larsen rifles have been extensively used and their bores are starting to show more wear than the average CG-63 you see for sale at Trade-Ex.

The shelves are bare of 6.5x55 in my area. Three gun stores, zero 6.5x55.
So, I ordered 32 pounds worth :) from Tradex. That should do me for a while, then I can decide if I want to reload for this calibre.

Just an FYI, the recent batch came from a shipment of 35 or so rifles. Weimajack got 5 of them (still has 2 left), the rest is being sold through Trade Ex (the importer). Weimajack usually picks the most pristine examples. If you want one, I would order before they're gone. Not too many left.

i got a s&h from tradex it is very accurate ,one inch group of four shots at 200 yards first time out.I also have a cg63 with a Schultz and Larson heavy barrel on hold at Tradex. They are fine rifles and the 6.5x55 is a sweet round in my opinion
