Sometimes on CGN we focus on the occasional disagreement and rarer rude behaviors but we need to remember this site is populated by many people who share their hard earned knowledge and experience. Today a fellow member offered me a part for my pistol free of charge as it as surplus to him , such people are not rare in the firearms community but are much appreciated by myself and others. Thanks CGN.

It is a common occurrence for many here to help someone out. I know when I do it,it makes me feel good.
What makes me feel even better is when the person in return sends a Timmie's card and a little note saying Thanks.

I have met some truly fantastic people thru CGN, all willing to help out in any way they can, I always try to pay forward the good karma that has been sent my way by numerous CGN'ers! This is for the most part a great community :)

...and the community crosses all socio-economic and geographic barriers. I once had a conversation here with one of our American members. He was decrying the total inability to find an adjustment sleeve for an 1897 shotgun. I picked one up and shipped it to him, just because. When he received it, he turned around and sent me every penny of what it was worth and some (I didn't ask for compensation). But the best part was that his son was deployed in Iraq at the time, so he included in the envelope some Iraqi currency with Saddam Hussein's image on it - long since out of circulation even in Iraq. GunNutz are mostly good people no matter where they're from.

I responded to a WTB add with the item the CGNutter was looking for. He didn't even respond to my PM till I said it was Free. That got his attention. I even paid the postage. Didn't so much as get a "thank you" till I sent a PM asking if he received it. Stuff like that rots my socks and I will think twice about being overly nice in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I have bought items from the EE where the seller outdid my expectations, but that one time left me somewhat bitter.

I've sent parts out for nothing more than the postage. I don't need 'em and I'd rather have them getting used by someone than collecting dust. It's not *always* about making a buck.

Try not to let the odd "sphincter" jade your view, in my experience this is the very rare exception and not the rule. On monday while pheasant hunting I pulled a guy out of the ditch and he left without a thank you before I put the tow strap away but I'll pull the next guy out and probably get a big thank you and an offer of cash which I'll refuse, doing good isn't about rewards.

Yes! I've done this as well, and you know what?

It makes me feel better.

My first EE experience was buying some rings for a scope I had just bought. The member met me, helped me get everything installed correctly and wouldn’t take money for the rings no matter how much I offered.

Feeling obligated to pay it forward, I had some spare 1911 mags I didn’t need that went up on the EE free to first local ‘I’ll take it’. Made their day when I dropped them off

It’s nice to be on the receiving end of these experiences, but we each have a responsibility to do what we can to improve the community when we have an opportunity and means. Sometimes that’s just being polite or taking the time to help a newbie if you have the time.

Glad to hear of others good experiences

yeah it has happened to me too but it's rather the exception than the rule.
I washed down the bitter taste with some Glen Fiddich that somehow doesn't show on my credit card statement.
Win some, lose some :)
