Not necessarily the best section for this but it pertains to getting shot with my mossberg 500 Persuader so....
Good idea I wanted to share.

Made my own "smoking" clays with some cheap chalk from princess auto. Got the idea from field and stream:

I think I'll get some cool photos at close range but they're originally made to make it easier to see your shots. Either way it was a good Sunday morning craft with the kids, I let them glue and I handled the chalk since it can be a bit unhealthy.

Albayo, now you are a guy that thinks out of the box. I am not a tannerite fan but shooting a popping target would be fun. I don't have any experience with the stuff, would shotgun pellets set it off?

No, Shotgun pellets will not set off tannerite, Its been tried....believe me.

Now on the other hand, if you fill the back or cup part of the clay target, then tape it up so it cannot leak out, they will work fantastic for flash bang targets out at 100 yards or 200 yards with your rifle. A 1 pound container of Tannerite can fill approx 7 Clay targets, so you can set up a bunch out at different yardages and "pop" them off.

When I was in canadian tire last they had a six pack or exploding clay pigeons for 19.99 I believe. I'm not sure what explosive they use in them. But they are out there!

I believe they are very expensive versions of what the op built, make your own, waaaay cheaper.

I actually made up a bunch of 'smokers' the other day. I filled the dome and then covered with some orange duct tape. Took about one minute per target.... More time than it was worth. Haven't tried them yet. I've shy them in the past and they are pretty cool.

TANNERITE CAN BE USED. I was looking up clays on youtube and it looked impressive. (doesn't really appeal to me, though).

I have read that you can buy factory smokers (flash clays), but they are a lot more expensive. I didn't look for a price.

No no these are quite impressive actually!! Good flash and puff of smoke!! Far too expensive though!!
The firebird sniper targets are great for confirming a hit at long ranges!!
