This is 2 shots at 35 yards.20220904_195611.jpg

And the wads are different colours in the different boxes.

Anybody have any idea what these shoot well in? I've tried them in 3 different guns and the best result is with a modified choke and even then they would be adequate for "Bear Defence" range if I dare bring that up, by for Hunting, forget it.

Maybe try tighter choke. I killed a lot of deer with those slugs out to 75 yards looong time ago. Back then I almost always ended up with a fixed full choke Remington or Winchester.

I've only got 5 left (of 20), can't see buying any more. The Challenger Target Slugs shoot well for me though.

So you fired two shots and you get 4 holes?
These slugs were designed for the wad to stay attached to the slug during flight and to drag stabilize the slug.

It seems in your case the wads are detaching from the slug for one reason or another .... and this would explain the poor accuracy...

That's right; 2 shots, 4 holes, only one of which is round.

Are they? Gualandi themselves call it a "launching wad" and still being a foster design it shouldn't matter as long as it does either consistently. If it is indeed supposed to stay on during flight they should have chosen something more significant than a slight friction fit to attach them.

Since they won't shoot for me, I had no hesitation cutting one apart. The slug is largely hollow from the back with a post in the middle, the wad is barbed plastic and easily pulled apart from the slug with my fingers. The slug is definately harder lead than the typical Foster Slug. My guess is they're too hard to seal the bore and it is hit or miss whether the wad stays attached or not.

Not going to get any consistency if the wads come off half the time. Too bad I wanted to try these out but now I'm thinking it might not be worth bothering with.

The Challenger Magnum/Gualandi slug is not a Foster design ..... it has a more solid core ... and as MiG25 has shown with the pictures.

The wad needs to stay with the slug for stabilization during flight.

Here is the result of shooting one into wood ..... and it shows ... this slug was designed for penetration on wild boars ...

What he showed is a foster slug, a hollow based and front heavy design... The slight differences don't change that. The same wad system is used for many other slugs, all foster style. I have lost tons of wads in flight while shooting Score ammunition and the slug still manages decent accuracy. I would say something else is the issue.

I don't care what YouTube says, especially that guy. The people who designed and make them are who I want to hear from. So far I haven't found anything on their website or in their literature that says the wad is an important stabilizing feature.

Keep us posted once you get a response back from Gualandi .....

In the meantime, maybe you want to reload a couple with a different wad and share with us what accuracy you achieved?

I fired those slugs in a few guns and was very unimpressed by the accuracy I observed. Best results were from a cylinder bore barrel that would group 2-3 inches at 20 yards. In my full choke cooey it was more like 8-10 inches.
I would not buy again.

Could you please specify what type those are? Rifled or not, there are different kind.

Never heard anything bad about the rifled slugs but they are pricey.

Those look as if they are the rifled ones. Would surprise me.

They're the ones in the 10 rd box with the deer on it that cost ~$36.

Yes, I see it now.

Just bought 5 boxes from Tenda since shipping was free with other ammo. Paid $27.99 I believe.

I checked mine now, the boxes look brand spanking new and the slugs as well.

They sit nicely in the casings, unlike yours and the brass on yours look kind of aged, mine is very shiny.

The other difference I see is that on mine the lettering starts from the other side.

I had some (probably still do) and accuracy wasn't impressive. But the construction and penetration of the slugs were.

I don't hunt with slugs so if I was to use them they would be used on a bear at fairly close range so accuracy wouldn't really be a factor for me. If you typically hunt with slugs, there are more accurate ones out there.

I believe the same slug is loaded in the Rottweil Exact line, can anyone confirm and how do they shoot?
