Well now that we won't be able to get Kent target ammo for several months, I was thinking about giving Challenger a try. Don't see much of it out west and am wondering from those who have tried how it generally performs. Thanks FS

Last season I shot a whole lot of the target 28ga and .410 loads and made out very well with it. It is extremely reasonably priced and the results were very acceptable.

The 20ga will hit you like a 12ga. The breaks that you can get are amazing (almost embarassing if you hit it right and smoke them from station 4).

I have not shot a lot of the 12ga, but they too will hit you back pretty good. People I shoot with have had very good results with them.

Brad.

Very consistant ammo for the budget price. Like already mentioned it does have a bit of a "punch" to it but besides that it's fine. I like it better than the cheap Federal or Winchester stuff but not as much as the cheap Remington's.
Whats up with you not being able to get Kent stuff? Something happen I'm not aware of? I sent an email to them a while back and haven't heard back from them yet.

Brad....I shot a beautiful K-80 skeet on Saturday. Not for sale though and it was BEAUTIFUL. I think, the engraveing on it was worth more than my truck...:p

Kent and Challenger both use Cheddite components and are very similar except that Challenger is loaded hot. I've shot with the owner of the company and his philosophy is "speed kills." The Challenger 28 for example is rated at 1,330 fps.

The ammo is consistent, lead quality is good and the only objection I have is that in extreme cold you can get off sounding shells and presumably lower velocity. I believe this is due to the use of single base powder.

Kent Cartridge Co. Canada is shutting down - pulling back to the States at their Kearneysville, WV. location. A Canadian Distribution Network is supposed to be set-up in the near future.

I find the brass in challenger shell a little soft. Usually about 5-10 per box will expand so much the ejector in my Ljutic won't even pull them out and I have to use a ram rod or brass weight to ghet them out.

Does anyne have awebsite address for Challenger? I've tried and can't kind one. I've only shot their 1 1/8oz handicap loads and their slugs but I'd like to see what else they have. They are a Canadian company right?

Bogman:

Have you had the same problem with Kent ammo or any other shells using Cheddite hulls? It's odd that the case heads would expand because like a lot of shells the heads are steel coloured brass.

Trex:

Challenger doesn't have a website. The owner of the company makes good ammo but promotion and marketing isn't his strong suit.

Challenger products

Guys they make 8 different offerings in 12 gauge target ammo, 2- 1 1/8oz paper loads, 1- 1oz load, a 2 3/4 dram load, a 3 dram load in 1 1/8th oz,2 International loads 1 in paper 1 in plastic and an 8% antimony 1 1/8oz heavy target load at 1330 fps. 20g 28 g and 410 as well

It is excellent ammo. Lots of trap & skeet shooters use it. And it burns very cleanly compared to some others. When I look in my ammo box, for clays and waterfowl, it's almost entirely Challenger. They make a very good product, IMO.

Claybuster, Haven't shot Kent thru my Ljutic, I do use there hunting loads in my 870 and love them. I have had problems with Challenger , Mirage , and Fiocchi. I started using the Remington gun club 1 oz 8's and am REALLY impressed with those .
