A good thing is too visually/exadurate each step of ACTS and PROVE. For example, for Observing the chamber and Verifying the feed path, stick your finger in the chamber and mag/magwell (if present) to show you are checking them. Also, try not to get anxious. I failed my first practical because i was nervous and forgot to do the whole ACTS and PROVE. Also, do not point the gun at the instructor, Its a immediate failure. Its not easy to do on the Non-restricted since your only dealing with long guns, but o the restricted its a lot easier. Some instructors might overlook it if you preformed acts and prove beforehand (which you ALWAYS do whenever you pick up a firearm, they will test you by telling you to put the firearm down ad picking it up again).
