Challenging pal/rpal tests tomorrow, any words of wisdom?

As the title says, I'm challenging the tests in the morning, words of wisdom and advice would be appreciated. Thanks Andrew.

Don't point the gun at you unless inspecting bore, don't point muzzle anywhere but downrange especially not instructor (automatic fail), know how to cross a fence with a riffle, know how to pack up your restricted firearm when leaving the range, know types of ammo

Good Luck!

When doing the practical portion (handling the guns) make sure you say everything you're doing out loud so the examiner hears you.

They could miss you doing part of ACTS and PROVE if they happen to be writing something down. Happened to me during the RPAL practical. She said I said I didn't check the head stamp on the .45ACP round before loading the semi-auto. I did, she just missed it.

And naturally, don't point any of the guns at the examiner or yourself (unless you're checking the bore) . :D

I find it odd that in any circumstance they would get you to look down the barrel of a firearm.
Wouldn't it be wise to always use a bore checker rod (or whatever it's called lol).

Remember after crossing the fence to check the gun.
And if you don't recognize the guns at the start, ask the instructor to show how the controls work.

If you've done the proper check to make sure it isn't loaded, there shouldn't be any danger, now should there?

:D ;) :D

When doing the safety course you will be taught to ACTS and PROVE, you can use a borelight to look down the barrel, they dont force you to do it this way, you can always use a cleaning rod. Of course examining bore is last so technically there should be no live rounds in the firearm.

lol I hear you, but if you "had" the choice, you'd use a cleaning rod right? Not only is it safer but you'll also give the barrel a quick clean! lol jk

Watch out for single action revolvers in your RPAL practical! The barrel is never safe to look down if the cylinder doesn't swing out (sounds obvious, easy to forget during the test) ;)
