I've had firearms shipped with chamber flags in plastic packaging uninstalled in the firearm. Recently purchased one (AR type) and it came shipped with a chamber flag installed. My question is: do people store firearms with chamber flags? Does it wear out springs if left for extended period?

Springs wear out by compressing and expanding not by just sitting there under a little tension.
It would be no different than using a cable lock through the action.
