Chamber length?

Anyone know the chamber length on the old Cooey 84's? There is no stamp on them anywhere. It's a 20 gauge. Also is it safe to put a slug through a full choke?

Take a spent 3in case and see if it fits and extracts, measure it.

A spent 3 in case fits and extracts, however I have no way of knowing if it fully opens or not when fired. The chamber begins to taper so a three will fit, but will it open? Mesuring it does not really work because it is difficult to tell where the taper begins. I don't really want to blow myself up. I know they sell gauges, but if someone else owns one I would rather save the $$$.

If unsure shoot 2 3/4". Millions of rifled slugs have been fired through Cooeys full choke.

A 2 3/4" chamber will take a complete unfired 3" shell.... But bulge and even splits may occur if fired into the shorter chamber. I suggest you to take your shotgun to a competent gunsmith if you want to be sure, if not, do as Iceman2 said and shoot only 2 3/4" through it.
