After removing the bolt, I put a shell in the chamber and noticed I was able to take my finger and move the rear of the shell up and down a hair. Is that normal ??

By definition " a hair " yes . But what color ? that is another question . lol
My rifle seems to have a little excessive play in it but so far it still operates normally . I am concerned however that I get several split cases every now and then . I need to mike out a spent case to determine if the chamber is at fault , maybe next weekends project . Unless you can really move it around I wouldn't get to worried about it . The SKS is a little sloppy everywhere , It still works great , its just not a tack driver .

Yes, thats normal, mine does it also. Unless its moving a lot, dont worry. I have never had a cracked case, ftf, fte, etc... with mine and its seen thousands of rounds.
