I happened into a pushfeed M70 super short action very cheap, and would like to make something different out of it. I was thinking of a ultra light 270 or 7mm WSSM.

My question is can a WSM reamer be used and just stopped short to create the shorter chamber or is it a better idea to order a new reamer? It seems to be easy to find a smith with a WSM reamer, but not many seem to have a WSSM reamer.

"...don't think there is a 270wssm..." There isn't. No 7mm WSSM either. You can have a .223, .243 or .25 WSSM or a .270, .30, .325 or 7mm WSM.
"...can a WSM reamer be used..." Even if there was such a thing, no. Shoulder angles aren't the same. WSM's use 35 degrees, the WSSM's are 28 and 30 degrees.
The smithy would need to have the heaspace guages too. Mind you, if he has the reamers, it'd be unlikely for him not to have the headspace guages as well.

Just email Pacific Tool & Gauge and spec whatever you want, make it a 40 degree shoulder if you like. Just send a copy of the reamer drawing to Redding and they cut you dies while you wait for the reamer. It's too easy.

Ya pretty much what I thought, been on the phone with PTG already.

And you guys are wrong about there not being a 7 wssm or 270 wssm, they were not factory cases, but have been done by many others as wildcats, I was hoping one of the guys that have built one would speak up.

The case has been wildcatted from 6.5mm up to a 375, I know of a smith with a 6.5wssm reamer, and I think it was a 325 corbin that is a 8mm wssm. It seems all the wildcats have been built off of the 243 wssm case. PTG lists the reamer as 270-243wssm.
