I've used only factory ammo (Hornady Vmax) in my .204 Ruger. The cases are fire formed to my gun...now, when I reload them should I have to champher them even if I haven't trimmed them?
The end of the case kinda looks "squared" as if the factory never champhered the case in manufacturing.

I wouldnt waste me time....there wont be any burrs inside a case after being fired...your time would be better spent shooting squeaks, with a pink 10/22...

Seriously its a waste of time. namely yours.

Uhhh...I'd rather use my .204, but thanks for the offer. :D

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same Dennis. Since the reload bullets are Hornady Vmax as well and they are completely copper coated, that a sharp edge inside the case mouth probably wouldn't "shave" them like a plain lead bullet.

I think I would still trim your cases , your cases still grow in length when fired .............

Your cases will stretch more resizing them than they will shooting them.

For the 2 seconds it takes to champer inside and out, why not? It will stop the shaving the jackets when you seat the bullets. You only need to do it once unless you trim them, then you will have to do it again.

I agree. But the funny thing is that the length after the first couple of firings is still less than the "trim length" in my Hornady data book.
And I use collet dies only on my .204

Trim the cases only when they are at the max OAL...then chamfer them.my 22-250 shoots .225 inch groups with out trimming or chamfering. As long as the OAL is under max...who cares??

once you chamfer them and the neck is beveled, its not like its gonna magically be squared off again on the first firing. The bevel will be there for quite some time. the only thing I have seen is that factory cases are near max OAL and should be checked after the first fireing....then you are good for at least 3 more after that...

"...if I haven't trimmed them?..." Nope. Only after trimming.
"...as if the factory never..." Very likely didn't. The factory isn't using the same kind of tools reloaders use.
