Change .308 to 338 Federal

Suppose I got a win. model 100 semi auto in .308 or .243 for that matter, How easy or difficult would it be to change it over to a .338 Federal? What is the shortest barrel such a rifle could wear and not loose to much velocity and get too blasty?

You'd need a custom made barrel. The rifle came in .308, .243 and .284 only. Plus modifications to the gas system and feed ramp. Price the barrel before you do anything else.
 
I've known lots of guys that have had the conversion done with a Savage 99 in 308 using the existing barrel but not to sure how it would work with a semi-auto due to the gas ports as was already stated.
