I own an Interarms Mark X in .243 caliber. If I found a different caliber barrel made by Interarms for the Mark X, would it screw right in? Or would other machining be necessary. This is just theoretical question for now as I don't have another barrel.

It is unlikely that the barrel would fit properly without at least some adjustment. It could be minor. Sights might not be on top. Headspace might need adjustment. Because the Mk.X is essentially a commercial version of the venerable 98 Mauser, there are a wide variey of barreling options available.

Sounds like a gunsmith could do it for me with mininal fuss if I decide to scale up my caliber.

Thanks tiriag.

If you check some of the websites ( D. Henry Gunmakers, Ellwood Epps, etc)
I think you will find prices for bolting up finished barrels and headspacing.
about $125 IIRC.
And like tiriaq stated, no sweat.

Depends on the new cartridge. If it's based on the .308 and is roughly the same length as a .243, then it's off with the old barrel and fitting the new one for headspace. A larger or smaller case will require work on the bolt, feed ramps and mag as a minimum. Yep, a good smithy can do it without too much fuss.
