As the title says. Why can't you change the colour of your IPSC Production pistol if you want to stay in that division?

Cerakote, Duracoat, Krylon, etc. Why would changing the colour become an advantage for you?

I couldn't see it being a weight issue as you'd probably not even notice the difference.

It is what it is.

The rules are as they are and we have to follow them.

Lots of other divisions are available for us to play with pistol modifications in.

actually it's pretty simple. If they allowed people to mod colors, then people would start doing racing stripes down the top of the slide, or stuff like that, all in an attempt to go faster. and that's not what the division is about, cosmetic stuff, it's supposed to be about shooting. if you want a different color you can do that to a spare gun or in a different division. It's one of the few rules in PD that is also easily enforced.

It wasn't about making racing stripes, it was about people doing things like putting black lines down the top of their slide as a sighting aid and weird stuff like that.

Lol, I understand that other divisions allow mods, I shoot standard most of the time. It's always been a question on my mind and didn't know if there was a legit reason for it or not.

I'd imagine someone could do slide modifications (lighten the slide and back fill with a light material to restore shape) and then pain over it, covering up all evidence of something being tampered with??

The creative mind of the gamer knows no bounds.

It is my understanding Production class is basically purchasing an 'off the shelf' pistol and taking it to the IPSC match. Stock, as in, no racing stripes and upgrades or changes. There's standard and open for that sort of thing.

It used to be like that. You can buy a Tanfoglio with bull barrel, adjustable sights with oversize controls, extreme parts and brass grips, that's basicly a double action standard gun. Yet, you can't Cerakote a Glock.

Do people do that in other divisions? Given that stripes automatically make anything faster.

Really, pick the gun you like and find which division it fits in. I don't like dicking with stuff and my gun fits the division, so I shoot production. If I'm ever in danger of winning anything I'll pay more attention to equipment.

" Why would changing the colour become an advantage for you? "

I think it's more about the "spirit" of the division, versus any actual advantage.

Don't forget that camo pants are banned too.

It's to stop all those aerodynamic slippery finishes being used. You know, the ones that would mean the slide would cycle so much faster due to reduced air resistance. Same reason competitive cyclists shave their legs - reduced wind resistance. Would help when running between targets too ;) ;)
