I have a Kimber 1911 I would like to change the Hammer and sear to a SVI, Ed brown or C&S kit. Do they require specific gunsmithing or are they 'drop in'?

the hammer and sear should just drop in with no gunsmithing......unless you want a trigger job, then that's different

but just beware that when you change either the hammer or sear or both, you're gonna have to possibly get a new thumb safety since it's fit to that specific gun with those parts that you just replaced.

you can't just use the same thumb safety and expect it to work, unless you get lucky. it'll either not block the sear enough or it'll need a bit of filing for clearance to block the sear from moving

the first case, you can get someone to weld up the area where it contacts the sear or get a new safety.....the second case, you can use your original thumb safety

it's not difficult to do but if you don't feel confident, get a competent gunsmith to do it for you (just because he's a gunsmith doesn't mean he's good)

good luck!

The parts have to be fitted or you will/can run into problems like hammer follow etc.

Drop in parts for a 1911 aren't drop in.

Unless you know what you are doing, let someone who knows do it.
