Charges laid in Navan pig shooting

2 men charged under Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Act

CBC News Posted: Dec 07, 2017 5:31 PM ET| Last Updated: Dec 07, 2017 5:31 PM ET

Charges have been laid in the shooting last month of two pet pot-bellied pigs belonging to a Navan couple.

Two men have been charged under Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Act with using a firearm without consideration for property, and trespassing for the purposes of hunting.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which laid the charges, did not name the men.

Navan couple devastated after hunters kill pet pigs

Matt Nooyen and Lianne Guillbeault's beloved pets Pickles and Rosie were killed in November when Frank Laplante, a man Guillbeault had met weeks earlier, and another individual went hunting on the couple's Frank Kenny Road property.

Laplante said he had mistaken Pickles and Rosie for wild boars.

The two men will appear in provincial court in Ottawa on Feb. 22.

I think snuggling up with a dirty pig is just gross. Hunters did them a favor, IMO. Maybe they'll move on to a more appropriate pet, not breakfast meat.

Potbellied pigs are actually very clean and quite smart... my father raised them on his farm for a few years. Many of the buyers sent pictures of their potbellied pigs integrated into the family just like a dog or cat would be.

In addition to the criminal charges they should be court ordered to make restitution.

Be that as it may I hope these "hunters" are met with the strictest punishment allowable by law. Disgusting to go onto someones property without permission and kill something that isn't yours. If you aren't able to tell the difference between a nearly domesticated pig and a wild boar you have no business hunting.

100%. This is worse than breaking into someones house and stealing a TV in my opinion.

A bad owner of a potbellied pig, is likely to be a bad owner of a dog.

I think you may have something there. This was in Shelton, WA., where it was always damp or raining, and I wouldn't venture out into the backyard with out rubber boots.
The yard consisted of 50% mud and half pig $hit. Owner said he was going to get at it when it dried up. Which was probably never.

I think dogs and cats that leave hair everywhere and stink up an otherwise beautiful home or vehicle are gross, need me to do you a favor?

Didn't think so.

I'm glad these clowns got charged.

Pigs if given the chance are quite clean. But they sunburn very easy that's why they roll around in the mud. they quite like being hosed off as well. If the pen etc is kept clean the pigs are usually clean.
