hey guys, so its been bugging me for a little bit, but ive found that when i pull the charging handle for test fires, say an empty mag in magwell, no rounds of course, that racking the charging handle is kinda tough. but once its racked and i release it the bolt is smooth like butter, is this normal ?

It's normal. You are cocking the hammer when racking the rifle. Once the hammer is cocked subsequent "racks" no longer have to do this hence the smoother action.

Also, those fancy $20 "recoil spring guides" actually make it smoother to cycle the action too. But don't get one for that, get one because its better for accuraCy. It really is.

M-14 /M1 pattern needs grease on several very specific places, find the guide to grease it and do it. Yer supposed to anyhow!
