Charles Daly 500, can I shoot steel in this?

In a Wallow West of Edmonton.
I've got an older double Charles Daly model 500 with 75mm chambers, modified and improved barrel. There is a S stamped up and left of the serial#, but other than that it has a NP 20, and some kind of proof stamp looks like a H in some scrolled circle.

Any ideas out there?
 
Charles Daly was an importer. Where was the gun made? Some came from japan some from Turkey and god knows where. Do a google search you may find out it's origin from it's appearance. I will risk it and say that with the open choking you mentioned it would be OK with smaller steel shot sizes such as 2, 3 or 4's. is ita 12 bore?

All the Charles Daly Mod 500 SxS I have seen were made in Japan by Miruku. They are idenitical in many ways to the Browning BSS, have chrome lined bls and as long as choke constrictions will allow they are fine for steel.

That's a pre-steel gun. I wouldn't do it, especially not in a double which is NOT approved for steel shot. Any ringing which may occur ahead of the chokes is going to possibly separate the barrel from the rib - bad news. If it were a single barrel gun and IC choke, I'd use the smallest steel that would do the job.

What you have there is a beautiful upland gun. If you DO have to use it for ducks, use Bismuth.
