Do we have any idea if ammo prices will go down in the (near) future? Is now a good time to buy or should you wait and buy in bulk?
Buying ammo is like the stock market - hard to predict, but unlike the stock market, ammo prices generally go one way and that is progressively up. Given this trend (at least in my lifetime), it is best if you find ammo you like and works with you gun, grab it during sales if possible and squirrel it away. A month or two ago, FOC had in a shipment of CCI Blazer .22s. A brick was $49.99. Now, 10 years ago that would be highway robbery, but given everything has gone up and even CCI SV is now $60+ for a brick on average, the Blazer was a good deal. There are also deals to be had on the secondary market, ie the EE. Maybe not necessarily steal of a deal off high end of Lapua or Tenex, but for plinking ammo, sometimes someone just decides to unload a brick or two of something or another, possibly part of a bundle deal. I recently picked up a brick of Remington Yellow Jacket for $25.00 for the brick. I mean, these aren't SKs or anything but for plinking, hey why not.
I have found over the years it is a fool's errand to try to time when to buy ammo. Sure there may be some good sales like during the Black Friday weekend, but sometimes flash sales occur on things. I never shop at Bass Pro / Cabela's, as I find their ammo prices really high, but last year, I was informed about a quick sale they had on a 525 box of Remington Golden Bullets for $34.99 each. I know, not premium stuff, but for me I plink and don't complete, so it's fine for weekend duffers like me...
The old adage buy it cheap stack it deep applies...sure, cheap is subjective, but it is almost in retrospect in looking at prices that prices for ammo in the past almost always turn out to be "cheaper" than present prices. So I just find 22 rounds that I like and buy when I can.
