I'm new to shotgun shooting, Im wondering where I can get the cheapest shotgun ammo. Its just for range fun so price really is the deciding factor. Cheap meaning including delivery etc if its via mail order

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Currently Im buy ammo at Canadian Tire for (I think) 8$ for 25 shells 2 3/4 7.5

I think I can do better than that but Im not sure :)

Walmart has the value packs of 100 for about 20 bucks:)
Crappy tire has the value pack of 15 slugs for about $12.50

$8 for a box of TARGET loads is ridiculous!!!!

I usually get a flat (10 boxes) of Winchester AA in 7.5 for around $55-60 plus tax. And that's the best ammo you can buy! Wholesale Sports or Russells carries boatloads of target shells.

Walmart has cheapy shells, usually $20 for 100. I steer clear of CrappyTire for ammo, as they are usually the most expensive place in town.

check your yellow pages for the local gun shops and start calling around

I can pick up a flat of Kent Velocity Diamond Shot (K122PL36-7.5) $44.74 (tax Included) localy thats $4.47/ box or about 18 cents a shot

I pay only a few pennies more than that and I think its a good deal.

$8 a box isnt bad if it is Win AA 28ga, but for 12 ga blasting you can do much better.

thanks again guys, looks like walmart was the best I could find, and I saved a ton of money over what Ive been paying, I LOVE this board! :D

Just picked up the following
100 shells for $19.97 for target stuff (2 boxes)
25 shells for $5.97 for better quality hunting stuff (2 boxes)

Uh, you DO realize that one of those boxes is for 20 gauge?

I've almost had that at Walmart too.... say "I'll take two of those", and the shelf behind the first one is stocked incorrectly..

yeah got 5 shell boxes of 2 3-4 Remington Slugger and 000 Buck at Walmart for $3.75 a box.

YIKES I DIDNT, thanks a ton, girl behind the counter must have grabbed the box beside the one I pointed to and I never caught it!

I would exchange it for some 12 gauge ammo. The 20 gauge ammo is too small and will just get stuck down the barrel.

I'd use it as an excuse to buy a 20 ga., myself. For one thing, shooting a 20 ga. at the range is an excellent idea. As you now know, you can get cheap ammo for 20 ga. (this is pretty much the only guage other than 12 with good availability of various loads at decent prices).

The other 'plus' for 20 ga. is that they tend to be fairly good patterning guns (each gun is different, but generally speaking) and, unless you get an incredibly light gun, the recoil is lighter. That can be a big asset during a long day of shooting.

Never look a good excuse in the mouth...

Forgot to mention my second point: They (20's) make GREAT upland game bird guns, if you ever get into that. What part of the country do you live in?

Im in the niagara area. Walmart wont take ammo back for exchange or refund under any circumstances, its on the back of the receipt as I found out today. No biggy for 20$. I think Ill wait until the next gun show and try to pickup a cheap used 20 gauge and have some fun with it.
