cheap ammo9(like the UMC) does more abrasion to the rifle?

I`m buying a savage 12bvss in .223, a friend of mine said I should try his 12 bvss .223 before buying it, he told me to buy some cheap ammo, I just need to feel the gun and don`t really care about the accurate, but the most important I don`t want to did some thing bad to my friend`s rifle.
