I'm thinking about picking up a cheap AR upper and I'm just wondering if there are any suggestions. I'm looking for a 16" pipe with a free float handguard and forward assist.

I ordered this one. I cannot build an upper that beat this discounted price (or by much) The $40 shipping is a bit steep but it is the fastest shipping item I bought that shipped from NS to BC within 3 days. Consider that my $15 Brownells order has gone MIA for the last 2.5 weeks I would say $40 to get an item in 3 days from NS to BC is well worth it.
Qty is pretty good for its discounted price. Nothing to complain about in terms of finish and etc. Also, my NEA upper won't even fit into a BEV block and this one fits no problem so you be the judge. Also, upper got a square forge mark on mine. Because it is 16" barrel with carbine gas tube you might wanna prep for over-gas. I am putting on an adjustable gas block (btw I like their gas block screws so I will switch them if they are compatible) I wanna replace the hand guard since I don't like quad rail and already got a MLok one; however, I can't switch without switching the barrel nut as well. Consider that the barrel is not chrome lined eventually I will have to replace the barrel way down the road (sooner than a chrome lined) but by then the only thing need to replace is the barrel so I will replace the barrel nut as well at that time.
I wish I can tell you about if headspace check are all good but remember that Brownells package I mentioned is missing right now? That's my order of the NO GO and Field gauge
You might wanna check out Arms East as well. They got some upper I was looking at before I bought this one.

That would be $397 + $8 shipping CNA upper I assume? It doesn't come with BCG and charging handle (but most likely people will have a spare and I always replace my charging handle with the BCM one). If I have the money I would get the Maple Ridge Armory one from them but I am twice over my budget now
The Nordic Marksman one is $320 + $40 shipping (fast!) but unknown brand. Shoots ok so far no issue for initial test. Even buying cheapest TNA parts I cannot make one as low as $320.
I still think the best value still goes to Arms East's uppers. As I said if I haven't bought the NM one I would get it from Arms East as well.
Yeah. Everyone is trying to sell their uppers for millions of dollars. I don't know enough about ARs to know what is reasonable and what isn't and I have yet to see anything that compares to the NM and AE prices.
Some of the best deals on complete uppers is through psa in the states but the 10.5 inch premium upper with fn chf barrel has been out of stock for months with no sign of them being in stock anytime soon. Irg sometimes get them in for cheap I just put an add in the ee but not holding my breath there. May end up buying complete rifle strip parts I need then flip the r st
