Where's the place you buy?

Reloads availiable in Manitoba?

How much for a reloader (everything you need) specific to shotshells? How much do you save, and is it worth the time and $$?

Anyone have experience with internet orders?

I've been buying federal trap loads in cases (250 rounds), and they're costing me $70 at Wholesale Sports here in Winnipeg. I've realized that the amount I want to shoot will put me in the red way too soon!!

Thanks in advance.

I got a 12ga press on a trade a while ago.

I started looking into the cost/availability of components, and couldn't make it work. Not only was shot hard to find, but the costs I could find made the reloading cost maybe $5/case less than buying it. Then I would have to factor in the 4-5hrs it would take me to reload a case.

If you have a good, cheap source for lead shot it's one thing. But commercial is getting expensive.

Internet orders aren't that scary. Infact, your bank will help you out with internet orders if you are having trouble.
I would suggest walmart top buy ammunition for Winchester 12ga. I believe you will save $15-20 dollars on ammo.

I'd suggest you try to do a little homework in your local area. Shop around for reloading components and see what the prices are like for shot, wads, primers and powder....hulls if you have to buy them. Then do some math and figure out what it will cost you to reload. There's an easy calculator available to figure it all out for you. Find others who reload in your area (local gunclubs) and talk with them. Find out where they're getting their stuff and what it's costing them. And you could likely find someone who can help you get started if you want to get into reloading.

Those prices being quoted here by others don't sound like much of a bargain to me....$7.00 - $8.25 per box for 12 gauge. Money can be saved reloading......whether it's enough to make it worthwhile FOR YOU???? Only you can decide that.

I'm in eastern Ontario....everyone here in my area is still reloading 12 ga shells for less than $4.50 per box I believe.

For those of us who shoot alot...and shoot different gauges...the BIG savings are in the small gauges (410 & 28 Ga) where we're saving as much as $7 - $8 per box.

As for equipment....if you want to get into it you'd be wise to start by buying a Lyman's Shotshell Reloading manual $15 - $20.

For a loader....I'd personally start out with nothing less than a Mec 600 Jr. They used to be around $150.00 or so. Not sure now.

There are good used reloaders to be had if you shop/ask around. I know right now where there's a great Mec Sizemaster available for around a 100 bucks plus shipping from my area if interested. There are other loaders for sale at my Club right now as well. Used loaders aren't terribly hard to find.

You NEED a scale. An absolute MUST HAVE. They're not terribly expensive. I bought a digital scale I like from Cabela's for less than $100.00.

"I've realized that the amount I want to shoot will put me in the red way too soon!!"

If you plan on shooting quite a bit....reloading is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Not only can you save a couple bucks at least per box....you also can build better loads than the cheapo Walmart or Can Tire economy loads.

By the way....how's this for a good reason to reload? I can reload an entire case...500 rounds...in less time than it takes me to drive to Can Tire or Walmart, walk the aisles of the store to find an employee...who then has to find another employee with a key to the ammo locker and drive back home. If you're shooting 4 boxes a week and have to go to the store for a "4 pack" each time....just the savings in the gas money and the aggravation of trying to find a store employee or two each time is worth it to me. YMMV.

Any more questions...or info required....don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck.

If you are a trap or skeet club member, check with the club to see if you can get in on the club order.I bought my target loads with the club order for less than I can load them.

I am paying $63 (all in) a case for for Winchester super targets here in BC. I expect to do better in the future as buying them by the pallet (104 cases) is cheaper including shipping. Even at our small club I had no problems getting a 104 case order.

My club doesn't do orders like this. If I wanted to try and organize a buy, how would I go about doing that? Do you have a special contact? Any help would be appreciated.

That's funny and too true Neera. I love Can tire, but is a hassle... pretty much every time. I've sweet talked the "cougar" sales clerk at the sports department at the location close to me, and now it's a little better!! I like the idea of building my own if I can make it better than the cheap (crappy) loads. I am surprized that you can build them as fast as you're boasting Neera - that's good news, thank you for the info.

Anyone hear of trap club's getting "flats" or pallets of ammo? Anyone able to buy from them?

Appreciate all the help guys.

"I am surprized that you can build them as fast as you're boasting Neera"

Was not intended as a boast at all I can assure you. It's fact. :)

When I sit down for a loading session I can quite easily turn out a case of shells in an hour if I put my mind to it.....a case...not a flat.

I have 4 PW 800B's and when I get my rhythm going on them they spit 'em out as fast as I can pull the handle. Loading for the 410 is slower...a case might take me an hour and a half or there abouts. But the other 3 gauges go quickly when I want to get my ammo locker filled and get out of my loading room. :)

I think quite a few Clubs buy ammo in bulk for their members....mine does.

Club shell buy

All you need to do is get your pricing set and estimate shipping (bout $500 per pallet from PQ to NS), give the club guys the figures, collect up the money (get a 100% deposit) and put in your order. I have bought a couple pallets from challenger for our club this year and it went smoothly. The shipping company dropped the pallet at my house.

We try and inventory a bunch too so guys can buy it by the case as they need it as not everyone can buy or store a years supply in one shot. We have a healthy club bank account balance which helps a lot.

I like the Pallet idea!

How many boxes in a case?

What is the cost savings/flat if you buy by the pallet?

Yeah the pallet seems pretty slick... I'd love to see that show up at the warehouse.

How much are you guy's paying per pallet? If I'm understanding right, there would be about 104 cases (of 250 rounds each) on a pallet... and if the best price anyone here can get a single case for is $60.94, then;

104 x 60.94 = the highest price you should pay for a pallet
$6337.76

So, how much do you save? Someone please quote a price that you've got for a pallet.

Thanks.
