Well with steel out I can tell you one thing for sure there is no such thing as cheep non tox shot of any make , brand or composition.
Best to look for a gun that you can shoot steel out of

dont really have money for a $500+ gun when i have 3 old 870's(all 2 3/4" only),a mossberg bolt action with old style poly choke,a double with 2.5" chambers,a single shot cooey, and a maverick 88 that i cut down

Buy a choked tubed 870 3" express barrel for one of the wingmaters and change the 2 3/4" ejector in the receiver to 3" set up and your problem is solved. 130-150.00 should take care of that. Continue to use lead in the rest of the guns

they dont work with a 3" barrel i got rid of one already as it was not feeding right

why they even banned lead for waterfowl dont make sense

The old wingmasters 870's work fine with an express barrel , modification of the ring for the mag tube nut is all that is required.:slap:
Your feed issue was not do to an express barrel being on it . What do I know I only own more than a dozen wingmasters in all gauges.

Why can't you use steel in your 870's?

No reason I know of as long as he has the fixed choke opened to suit. Would be limited to 2 3/4" shells which may or may not be a problem pending where and what he hunts. I know I would not want to be out your way chasing snow geese with it. No sir your old sp-10 is way better for that. LOL

Alot of those old 870's came with a fixed modified choke from factory. Glad to see that "10" is working for you. I do miss it at times. That .243 is hell on yotes out here.

Of all the guns I sold or traded I miss the Tikka's the most. I will have another one in 243 some day. That one you got is a sweet gun and hates coyotes;)

I still use my older pump guns with steel shot for waterfowl. I have set up a 2-3/4" Remington Wingmaster for a friend who wanted a good and inexpensive waterfowl gun. It was a simple matter of spending $70 to have the choke opened from full to light modified.
Using a similar rig, (winchester model 12) I have shot between 50-200 geese and ducks per season since the steel shot regulations have come in. We hunt mostly over decoys, so I do not have a need for 3" or longer shells.
Just get the choke opened up by a smith who has a good piloted reamer that does the job from the chamber end, not the muzzle end. You might want to have the smith lengthen the forcing cone as well, it is not necessary but the gun will kick less and may pattern a bit better. Good luck!
