I plan to completly strip the bolt and firing pin from my Rems bolts.

I heard that you can't put oil on those threads and firing pin body and that grease is the product to apply.

I need a grease that I can find locally and that will be great for winter shooting (-30 degrees).

I don't want to have a stuck firing pin this winter (with all the dangerous consequence that it might come with).

Any ideas ?

I found a tube of synthetic grease that works and stays soft a cold temps ... IF you are very sparing with lithium grease I am pretty sure that you will be ok at -30.. grease not in direct contact with the metal is of no use anyway and if too thickly applied will present problems ..
the synthetic is permatex UltraSlick ... says its good to -20C but I have had rifle in -30 (and a little lower) without a problem. Taking them inside then outdoors in -30c cold isnt the best idea as moisture can be bigger problem than the grease

Pretty much anything made by Permatex/Loctite should do the trick. By default almost everything they make is rated -40/+140. The deeper you go into their catalog the more you'll find the 'extreme' use products; ie ultra low/high temp high performance.

I highly recommend G96 Gun Treatment for cold weather use. It is silicone based (NOT oil) and is not affected by any extreme cold temperatures you will experience hunting. After cleaning I spray it on the firing pin spring assembly and wipe away the excess. You can spray a trigger group with it and blow away the excess with compressed air. I have been using it for over 45 years.

The biggest issue with bolts isn't lube thickening in the cold, its years of accumulated dirt, grit and grime mixed in with old lube which was most likely the original packing grease. Most bolts have never been apart and cleaned. Once everything is clean, its hard to do anything wrong from there.
