Cheap semi with shorter barrel?

Advice please. Looking for a value priced semi 12g with a shorter barrel. Prefer 18.5, 20" etc. Its for my wife strictly for plinking. She has an 18.5" 870 20g. Says she wants a semi 12g. I say I don't want to spend a bunch o money. I'm not interested in used guns. I have looked around a bit and most cheaper guns seem to be 28". Is there something out there that I have missed.

Yes, you have missed something: a used quality gun is generally better than a cheap new gun, no matter the barrel length--and often costs about the same. As for "plinking"...perhaps a 22 would be better. Get her a good semi 12 for your anniversary. If you're still married by then, she's worth it.

Mossberg 930, hatsan ( either escort or mp-a) are pretty reliable inexpensive 12ga.

I was told the weatherby sa08 are pretty good gun as well but haven't handle one myself.

As a j cave mentioned baikal mp153 or remmy spr453 (same gun) are very good guns shortest I have seen is 24".

Saw it on sale once at basspro toronto for $299.

I am still kicking myself for not bought it that day ( already own one in 26 and one in 28 and that' what holding me from buying 3rd one ).

I see that you are in Ontario. Not sure if you are very far from Epps, but you might want to take a trip out and have a look at the H&R EXCELL AUTO TURKEY (SA1-131)

I bought an Excell Auto from Cabela's back about 8 years ago for only $350, and it was a great shotgun. (At least for me.) It was a full length 28" barrel, and hit point of aim. I used it a lot for fun, hunting and Trap. It was very light and easy to maintain and most of all very tolerant even when you ignored cleaning it. Not to mention I put a large variety of rounds through it and it shot everything from light target to full house rounds without any problems.

I ended up selling it to a friend, and later regretted it as I had never found another gun as reliable. I ended up buying one of the shorter H&R EXCELL AUTO TURKEY (SA1-131) from Epps earlier this year and have been very happy with it. Plus the 22" barrel makes for a very small upland gun as well.

^ I had the exact same thing happen with me as WWW above. I introduced a buddy to hunting & he asked to buy my old MP153 with a 26 inch barrel. I did & instantly regretted it!

So... I just recently bought TWO more, but with 24 inch barrels, one of them is for sale in the EE... I don't need two, ha ha. I went with the 24 inch barrel because the gun will be used for turkey's & waterfowl... And, the MP153 has a fairly long receiver being a 3.5 inch semi, so it is almost the same length as my Benelli Nova with a 26 inch barrel.

The Russian MP153 is a great gun for a great price when you compare it against other offerings!
