I'm looking at buying my first semi auto shotty.
So far the 1301 in at the top of my list.
With my pump I pretty much always use cheap target loads.
I have piles of Challenger 2-3/4" / 1oz loads from when they were on sale...

Will these cycle ok in the 1301? I havn't really heard anything bad about these guns.

Unfortunately I can’t speak from first hand experience but everything I’ve read so far says the 1301 will digest everything from the weakest 2 3/4” bulk trap rounds to hot 3” buck and slugs equally reliably.

I am looking forward to getting a Gen 2 1301 tactical once they start populating dealers’ shelves.

I just bought a 1301 Comp. I love it! But I have yet to try light loads in it. Iv only fire 2 3/4” 00 buck and 3” Black Cloud. Now in saying that. The manual that came with my 1301 says it is designed to cycle 7/8oz 2 3/4” up to I believe its 2 1/4oz 3” rounds without any modifications or adjustments. If there weather wasn’t crap out right now, I would go try light loads in mine and let You know. Hopefully next Saturday I will try some lights target loads.

I only have about 30 rounds through my 1301 so far. It was starting to cycle 1oz loads at the 20 round mark but not every time. I think with some more rounds it should cycle them fine. My A400 excel cycles them fine but it has a couple of hundred rounds through it.

Shorter barrelled semiautos are usually a bit more sensative to light loads than sporting length versions, all else being equal, but the 1301should run anything after a proper break in.

Proper as in starting out with at least a few dozen slugs or other heavy loads before trying to run the light stuff.

If i remember reading my manual correctly, the 1301 competition is gassed for light target loads and it is not recommended to use hot loads.
Mine is broken in with 5/600 rounds. It has no problem with challenger 1200+
Winchest subsonics didnt cycle reliably as new. I wouldnt shoot a match with them, but cycled enough for backyard skeet.

Ok so directly from my 1301 Comp manual.

The 1301 Comp has also been optimised to ensue lower gas dispersal. As a result the system has a self-cleaning feature that further minimises maintenance and significantly reduces the stress to which the operating parts are subjected to at higher charges, thereby ensuring the greatest possible service life of the firearm. The shotgun with out adjustments or intervention can shoot cartridges from 70mm (2 3/4”) / 24g (7/8oz) to 76mm (3”) /57g (2oz).

It will need to be broken in with a fair amount of heavy rounds first. Its designed to cycle both light and heavy rounds.

Its designed perfectly for heavy rounds, but will also cycle light rounds.
