.22's are so cheap to shoot that I go through a lot of paper targets. A brick of ammo punches a lot of holes.
I've found that I can take a few pads of dollar store construction paper and put a dot of hot glue on the back to make a stack of paper. Then run hot melt around the edge. Then cut them into 3 inch squares on the bandsaw. Takes only a few minutes and each pad makes over 400 squares, 4 pads is over 1600 targets.
When I staple up a traditional target, each staple also holds a square. Put up 3 or 4 targets and you have 20 targets to shoot at.
They are just the right size for open sights at 50 yards.

Sounds interesting ,got pics of the final product? its fun making your own targets. I use power point to make targets of all sorts. You can even make the one inch grid in a light color for ref, add a data section to the bottom, your set to print. I did find that use of black should be kept to a minimum to save ink.
The dollar store has some cool stuff to shoot at,lol, I like the animals that are hard plastic, good for rimfire, not sure how long they would hold up though. :D

I like shooting eggs with my rimfires :) Fun reactive target, just the right size for 100 yards (meaning I can hit them virtually everytime hehe), and environmently friendly to boot! :p Thats a really good idea for making your own targets though, going to have to try that :)

English mints (chalky ones) on fishing line. Make up a batch of 30 or so the night before on a foot of mono-filament, hang at range - watch explode when hit. They are 1/2 inch across, and sway in the wind nicely. Makes the range minty fresh too.

I often cut out circles from old construction paper, about 3-4 inches across and spray them with neon orange paint. They can be easily seen and shot at 50 or 100 yards and when a .22 round hits the paint flakes off the target and makes the hole look like the size of a nickle. You can easily tell when you have made a hit even if you don't have optics.

I need more volume than that - in 2 1/2 hours at the range today, I went through 64 of the paper squares.

I've found that 2 or 3 inch strips cut off orange bristol board from the dollar store stapled up on white paper to make a cross hair make a good 200 yard target for center fire. Works just as well as those expensive 200 yard targets.

Deck of cards @100yds = 52 separate targets cheap
If your using a scope you got all the Hearts, Spades etc., to shoot at too

Paintballs

Hot glue them onto some cardboard and you're all set. You know right away if you hit them, and they're bio-friendly. A dab of glue, wait a second and apply the paintball. Its that easy.
Downside. If you're shooting on a blazing hot day, the glue will start to melt (hot melt glue, melting in the heat!? Who'da thunk it...:p ) and the targets fall off the cardboard.

(E)

Animal crackers

I had a blast plinking those things off. I applied them to a piece of cardboard just like (((Echo))) did with a hot glue gun. Cheaper than clays.
