I bought a bunch of that federal independence brass cased 556 from Tenda and I was thinking about reloading the brass.

Is there any powder/bullet/primer combination out there that would be less than 30 cents/round?

My AR is a 14.5" carbine length gas system.

Cheers

I can up with the same thing checking out all the Canadian websites. I thought maybe someone had something even cheaper.

The only issue with 4198 is that it's a fast burner and with a rifle length gas system, it might cause issues cycling an AR. I have a pre-order for the Maccabee SLR and I pan on barreling it with something longer than 18.5". It would be nice to be able to use the cheap plinking ammo in both.

If I wanted to load on a progressive, would a spherical powder be a better option? H335?

That one works great. Just did about 100 last night with 24.7g of H335.

Another one I like is CFE223. Meters that same and reduces barrel fouling after shooting hundreds of rounds out of an AR.

For about 9¢ you can get 25grns of Dominion D4064, and cut your cost to 25¢/round. Canam is out of stock now but they'll get more in december. I would prefer 4064 over 4198 for 223.

You won't be saving much though. After the rebate, the independance ends up about 35¢-36¢ per round. If you consider that 1F brass sells for 8¢, you're not saving much by reloading it instead of selling the brass and buying more new ammos.

Step one, don’t pay for brass.

Plenty of 1f pristine brass in the buckets at our range.

If you must pay for it, there is currently a guy selling his brass for 3 cents a pop.

Campro 55gr for the win. Fast toys in Winnipeg has them.

Whatever powder works for you. Go to wholesale if you have one nearby and clean them out if they have any sr primers left. If not, budget shooter supply.

same here, never bought brass for .223, 40S&W, 9mm, 357, 38special and a few that I can't remember.

In all seriousness, if the local queen’s cowboys use your range....

Look at the club’s rental usage / calendar. Show up about 15 mins after their rental time is done. No offense to the mounties, as my family is chock full of them. But they are almost institutionally slobs at the range. They will leave you hundreds of .223 and 9mm cases (and sometimes 00buck shells) on the range dirt and firing line floor. In 1 hour my two daughters and gathered almost 1000 9mm, 100 shotshells, and about 300 .223. And quite a few live rounds that they left there post-clearing drills.

Might as well recoup some tax dollars. You technically paid for those rounds anyway.

Most of the shooters at my range are brass hawks and the regional cops have their own private range at another range in town.

I usually scoop up pistol brass at IPSC matches if the other competitors don't want it. No such luck with rifle brass.

Same here. Some people don't pick up their 9mm, but everything else gets cleaned up. Cops of all flavours have their own range. I think in the last 12 months I've picked up 60 case of 223 and 10 cases of 38spl that weren't shot by me.
