Cheapest place to get Magpul MBUIS?

Thread Ressurrection...

$18 at one

If that is for a MagPul MBUS it is probably for the PTS version, not the USA version. Or else it is one heck of a deal way below cost.

Unfortunately many people and even many retailers either don't know the difference, or in the case of retailers many are passing off the PTS for the price of the USA version (I have confronted a few retailers about this and they continue to gouge people for the USA version price and refuse to sell the PTS version for its actual price  ).

It has probably been mentioned before on the forums, MagPul sells both a PTS and a USA version of many of their items.
The PTS is the cheap made-in-China plastic "Airsoft" version. www.magpul-pts.com
The USA is their actual polymer high-quality version. magpul.com

Don't be fooled by those retailers ripping people off, be sure to check which version they are actually selling you, if they will actually be up-front with you.
And imho don't buy the PTS "airsoft" version and expect it to last on your "real" firearm. :)

100$ front+rear USA vs how much for the PTS ? (can't find them anywhere)

How cheap can cheap be ? Will the cheap plastic PTS version will desintegrate after 5-10 years ?

I know you can pay top dollars for everything but if the PTS in "good enough" why not ?

Fake. We have real ones arriving late this week or next.

The new MBUS (Magpul Back-Up Sight) GEN 2.. about the same price as the ones from Brownells..

I was about to order them thinking it was the real ones. How can we be sure that its not the PTS version when shopping

The MagPul MBUS GenII USA polymer version usually sell for around $55 Rear + $45 Front or $100 for the pair.
The MagPul MBUS GenII PTS plastic version usually sell for around $18 each or $35 for the pair.

The difference in quality is noticeable.

There are dozens of websites that list either or both. A source for the PTS hardware would be to look at any of the airsoft retailers. But I would not use anything PTS on any rifle beyond a cheap .22LR.

The reason not to get the PTS models for a real gun is that they have less accuracy/zeroing characteristics (I've read of people having the front sight post just pop right out of the base), woeful tales of bad chinese plastic molding with extra bits of plastic flashing along the molding seams (requiring a razor knife and steady hands to clean it up), and the recoil of a real gun will often cause them to pop up when they are folded down.

You do get what you pay for. And at $100 for the better USA polymer MBUS sights they are still much less expensive than a set of Troys.

You need to ask the retailer/supplier if it is not listed on the website as to which version they are.
Any decent retailer will tell you the truth, and any decent "real" gun retailer should be selling the USA version and not the PTS version.

* edit

I just noticed on the "new" MagPul-PTS web site they are now selling the chinese plastic MBUS for basically the same price as the USA polymer version ($40+$58)... way to confuse and rip off everyone...

and who is selling genuines USA polymer version in Canada ? I was trusting Brownells but they seem to be out of stocks.. and at One Shot Tact.. the price matched the ~100$ and I learn today it was the cheaper ones..

The ones that's one shot sells are the airsoft quality ones?

According to what i see at post #7 of this thread, it could be!

I like One Shot a lot.. and its close to me.. but my whole point is.. its hard for me to shop for these only according to prices and hoping its not airsoft.. i want quality if i pay 100$ for a backup sight that will most likely never be used as long as the Red Dot dont fail on me.. don't need them to co-witness either, they will stay down, but i always want a plan B in everything i do!

The PTS model MBUS should have the letters "PTS" in fine print on the front face of the hinge-side of the base.
The problem is that you may actually have to go to the store to visually check them, as I have seen many online stores use the wrong photos (ie. USA model photo for PTS sights).

Questar sells the real deal. I bought mine from them.
