I am about to make the jump, :yingyang: thought I would never do. Never say never I guess.
I don't know anything about SKS and would like to buy 1 or 2. I am actually looking for a plinker so the cheaper the better. I don't need to be match number, this wont be a muscle car that get out on Sunday when it's sunny outside.
I plan to shoot the thing like I shoot my .22's by the cases :D
So how much will it's cost me and where can I buy them these days. No hurry if the price is good I can wait, anyway at -27 I don't feel like going outside to shoot

Thanks guys

Chinese is still the most inexpensive to get, The Russian is the best bang for the buck though, slightly better in accuracy and like the Chinese its available through out.

Technically Marstar has the cheapest SKS... Chinese SKS for $75. But there's a catch...

http://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/product.jsp?productid=74819

I own two Russian Izhevsk's ('53 & '54) - One from Westrifle.com and the other from local gun store.

I wouldn't buy a Chinese, they're not as "purdy" as other nutz have put it but they all go bang so you can't really go wrong.

If your thinking you may need it to second as a canoe paddle.. go ahead and get that Chinese!

If your going to buy more than one, get a Chinese or refurb ( doesn't matter) around the same price ( wanstalls , sfrc. ) , if your looking for a nice non refurb I highly recommend westrifle. They let you view a bunch of pictures of each rifle. Be prepared though you might start collecting them.

We generally do not promote members here to lever arms as they are not a site sponsor... or is there customer service anywhere near were it should be...

Just sayin!!!!

Who's rules are you using. A question was asked who has the cheapest SKS's. At the time Lever Arms had a great deal at a $150.00, nothing against CGN rules, just no hotlinking thats all. I have found as well as others their customer service to be great.

-Lever Arm are now $199.50 at least on there website.
-Westrifle seems to be $240 with shipping.
-I need to check if marstar include the shipping or not.
-Tradeex $169 russian gun + $25 for shipping
-Vinzier sports seems to have some with laminated stock for $219

I think I would like a Russian rifle, If I am gonna buy might as well be the real deal, don't you think

Yes, russian are nicer too:)

I have tried to deal with lever arms but found that they were really rude. West rifle has helped me finish my collection off. For maybe an extra 20-30$ well worth it ,over a refurb.
This is my option which may be wrong or right.

One thing I like about the Chinese SKS is the spike bayonet. It doesn't get in the way of your hand on the fore-stock.

As a plinker, I would prefer that.

Of course you can just extend the Russian blade bayonet and then it won't be in the way of your hand.

Does anyone know how much Marstar charges for shipping on their package deal?
I tried to figure it out by adding the deal to cart and checking out, but the website wouldn't give me a shipping rate unless I put my credit card info in.

$473.20 total price of package deal, to BC

Cheaper to buy a Russian with ammo from tradex

That's what I am trying to sort out.

I found a relatively local source where I can get a Russian re-furbished for $180 tax-in, and about $20 in gas to go get it. I am definitely leaning this way because 1) I can see the rifle before making a commitment and 2) I can pay cash. and 3) I don't need to wait for or worry about complications with shipping.

I just bought one yesterday for $180.00 tax in as well, had to pick it up. The shipping seem to make a lot of deals not quite so good sometimes.
