Looking to pick up a ww2 era rifle. I really like the Mosin Nagant and Mauser k98 but where does one get ammo for both? MOST IMPORTANTLY how much does the ammo cost?

If cost is most important to you than reloading is the only option to shoot mil surplus rifles.

If you need to buy loaded ammo then be prepared to pay the going rate.

Cost to reload is pretty much the same whether its .308, 30-06, 7.62X54 or 8X57 etc etc

Biggest cost is buying bullets.

The only cartridge would be spotty availability of surplus 7.62x54R. I wouldn't count on a long term supply because NRCAN (Natural Resources Canada, Explosives Branch) is basically not letting any surplus ammo into the country.

So you will be shooting new ammo at $1/round. If you do get surplus, it will be $0.50 to 0.75 a round.

7.62X54R surplus is the cheapest when you can find it....apart from that you will have to reload to shoot lots....otherwise you will be paying at least 80 cents a round....:(
