Cheapo Scope for a cheapo Mossberg Tactical .

You can buy standard 3-9x32 rimfire scopes for around $50 and they are not too bad for plinking. I have an el cheapo 3-9x32 Tasco on one rifle and it works well until you get the magnification cranked up beyond 7x or so, then the quality of the optics becomes apparent. You absolutely do get what you pay for in optics.

I bought a scope kit for my sks from Marstar, after deciding there was no way it would work well on it

Inexpensive Scopes
Cabelas has some reasonably priced scopes for around $100. Some are specially made for the .22 rimfire.
My own choice for a target/varmint/hunting scope was a Tasco 4-16x40 scope (DWC416x48N). This lists for just under $100, has a magnification range from 4 power to 16 power, and has a large 40mm lens on it.
There are two features that I wanted, the first being an Adjustable Objective which means that you can focus for different distances simply by turning the front ring of the scope.
I prefer a magnification power of between 6 and 10 power for hunting purposes. The higher powers are good for range use or testing ammunition, but the advantage to a variable power scope is that you can turn it DOWN for those closer ranges where you need a wide view to pick up a target.
One good feature of this scope is the Variable Zone Reticle (VZR) option. The lower vertical cross hair has four different aiming points, and it gives a better idea of where your bullet will hit at longer ranges. If you zero at 50 yards, and set it at about 8 power, then your bullets will be very close to hitting at 50, 75, 100,125 yards, and if you use the thick bottom of the cross hair, it is close to 150 yards.

I bought an NCStar 3-9x40 (with illum. reticule(sp?)...useless feature!) and a Hawke Optics 3-9x40 for my .22's. They were cheap and, I've had great success with them. I have them "flat at 100" and, use the mil-style reticule(sp?) for closer stuff. I had the NCStar on my Cooey64 with "See-thru" rings. Anything sub-50yd I can hit (readily) with the irons.
They look clunky and, are probably over-doing it for a .22. I bought them at a show, new, for 50$'s each and, have gotten about a million dollar's worth of pleasure out of them.
Locally, Simmons fixed 4x are about 60$'s...will grab one of them once I scrape the $'s together.

i agree the illuminated reticles are useless at times.
I went with a sub $100 bushnell with a 50mm.
3-9 was more than enough magnification for me, I try to avoid fixed magnification for .22LR, becuase in the varmint fields shots can range from 10-100m and the fixed parallax can be a problem.
Dak Sport has some Hawke scopes that seem pretty decent. They are very clear !Look at the AO selection.

I bought a scope off Ebay.ca when I bought my Sr-22.
3-9X50 mm lens (The name brand said Bushnell but I'm sure its a knock off) I paid 59 dollars for it, free shipping from China, and arrived in about 2 weeks. I have never had any problems with it and if you are just looking for something to plink around with like i was, that would be your best bet in my opinion.
